Most people dread seeing their teachers outside of school, but one Watkins Mill High School alumna is looking forward to it this weekend. WMHS graduate Kathryn Bratt-Pfotenhauer will speak as a featured poetry author and in the following block WMHS english and journalism teacher Sara Goodman Confino will be one of the featured authors at the Gaithersburg Book Festival for the second time. Confino will be engaging in a discussion about her book, Don’t Forget to Write, with Sophie Wan, the author of Women of Good Fortune

In January 2023, we reported that Nori Japan, one of the last remaining tenants at Lakeforest Mall, had announced that it would be opening a new location across from the former mall at 9615 Lost Knife Rd in the Montgomery Village Crossing shopping center.  The restaurant will be named Tokyo Hibachi and will be located in the space that was previously occupied by Wok Express. Magruder High School graduate Bongani Ndebele was recently named a Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellow at George Washington University. Ndebele, was one of two students named fellows for their leadership on campus and propensity to create change both at the university and in Washington, D.C.

Plaza Mexico, which has two locations in Frederick, has signed on to open a rooftop restaurant and bar at the upcoming North Pointe at Flower Hill, a new 16,000 SF retail and restaurant center located at 18251 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg. (more…)


The City of Gaithersburg has started planning for its newest park, a 2.99 acre parcel located at the corner of Decoverly Drive and Steinbeck Avenue in Crown. The park will occupy a portion of the original 175-acre property that was annexed into the City in 2006. While the parcel is a generous size, after accounting for required easements and stream valley buffers, the usable park space will be about 1.5 acres.

The City of Gaithersburg’s Transportation Committee identified the I-370 Bicycle Connection project as a key connection from Summit Hall Road to Industrial Drive. The path will be intended to “connect Gaithersburg residents & neighborhoods to local business, mass transit opportunities, and provide a low stress connection to Montgomery County’s master planned bicycle network.”
