Pollo Campero is taking over the location that was home to KFC until December 2020 at 426 N Frederick Rd in Gaithersburg, according to the Gaithersburg Office of Economic Development.

The fried chicken chain, which originated in Guatemala, opened its first location in 1971 and has grown to over 400 locations worldwide, including over 70 in the United States.


Drive-thru distribution available from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., or when supplies run out, whichever is sooner.

Free COVID-19 at-home rapid test kits will be available to City of Gaithersburg residents at a drive-thru distribution event at Activity Center at Bohrer Park on Tuesday, February 01, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., or when supplies run out, whichever is sooner. The Kentlands Photography Café at 309 Main St in Gaithersburg will he begin food and beverage service beginning this Friday, February 4.

According to the café, they will serve coffee and fresh baked goods in the morning, salads and sandwiches for lunch, and wine and charcuterie in the evening.


The Novavax vaccine would be the first protein-based alternative available in Israel

Novavax, Inc. (Nasdaq: NVAX), a biotechnology company based in Gaithersburg dedicated to developing and commercializing next-generation vaccines for serious infectious diseases, and Israel’s Ministry of Health today announced an agreement for the purchase of NVX-CoV2373, the company’s recombinant nanoparticle protein-based COVID-19 vaccine candidate with Matrix-M™ adjuvant.


Rebel’s Hot Chicken, a new “virtual restaurant” , is coming to Old Town Pour House in Gaithersburg.  The online only menu is scheduled to launch on February 2 and will be available through Grubhub, Uber Eats, and DoorDash.

Back in June of 2020 we let you know that Ela Mesa Taste of Greece would be coming to the Spectrum Town Center in Gaithersburg. After speaking with the owners earlier this week, we were told that the hope is to open in next month (February).

The new Greek restaurant is located at 109 Paramount Park Drive in the Spectrum Town Center in Gaithersburg, which is currently home to restaurants like Barking Made Cafe, California Tortilla, Hot Pot Hero, and Firebirds. The pandemic coupled with permitting issues have delayed the opening, by nearly a year but the restaurant is almost ready to roll. The restaurant will offer traditional Greek fare and will also have a full bar that seats 10 people.


Vine Alley, located at 114 Market. St in Gaithersburg, the former home of the Kentlands Wine Harvest, announced that they will be opening on February 7 at 11:30am.

Vine Alley is being opened by the restaurant group that owns Brew & Barrels (also located in Kentlands), Royal Tandoor (820 Muddy Branch Rd, Gaithersburg), and Taco Daddy (Frederick and formerly at 555 Quince Orchard Rd, Gaithersburg.)

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a 2-alarm fire on Carousel Court in the area of Girard Street in Gaithersburg at approximately 4pm today (Thursday, January 27th), according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.


Isaac’s Poultry Market is coming to 12167 Darnestown Rd in Gaithersburg, the former site of the recently demolished Pizza Hut. The restaurant is being opened by Rob Gresham, a lifelong MoCo resident and the former Director of Operations at CAVA.

The restaurant will feature American roasted chicken, wings, sandwiches, and salads. They tell us that everything they sell will be made from scratch and that the menu will feature plenty of healthy options. Isaac’s will also feature frozen custards and a variety of baked goods and desserts.


Last January we let you know that Java Nation would be moving in to 121 Market Street in the Kentlands neighborhood of Gaithersburg, which was formerly a Starbucks. Starbucks opened a new Kentlands location at 160 Kentlands Blvd at the beginning of this year that features a drive-thru.

We have been told there were material and equipment delays by manufacturers, initially pushing the opening timeframe from August to October, then November, and more recently January. Yesterday, we spoke with representatives from the Rockville and Kensington locations, who told us that the Kentlands location has been pushed back to late February or early March.
