The City of Gaithersburg received a 2025 Maryland Sustainable Growth Award in the Policy Category for ‘Retool Gaithersburg.’ The award was presented by Governor Wes Moore on behalf of the Sustainable Growth Subcabinet. The Policy Award recognizes the adoption and implementation of public policies, regulations, and plans supporting sustainable land use planning and development practices.

Gaithersburg-based Novavax announced preliminary results from the SHIELD-Utah study, conducted with the University of Utah Health, showing that its protein-based COVID-19 vaccine targeting the JN.1 strain caused fewer and less severe reactogenicity symptoms and less disruption to daily activities compared to the Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA vaccine in healthcare workers and first responders. A black bear was caught on camera strolling across a Darnestown driveway on Tuesday night, shortly after 8pm. The bear appeared to make its way towards the trash and recycling bin, which were securely closed, before wandering off. There were multiple sightings of the bear in the Darnestown area on Tuesday.
