It has been approximately three years since we reported that CVS would be taking over the old Tommy Joe’s/Boulevard Tavern/Brasserie Beck/O’Donnell’s location in the Kentlands. Construction continues to progress, as the frame of the building is now nearly complete except for the roof. There’s no timetable for when CVS will be ready to open, but it wouldn’t surprise us if it opened by this end of this fall.

Gaithersburg Councilmember Neil Harris told us that CVS would be moving forward with the plan back in 2019. Demolition of the old building occurred in November with construction starting soon after.

Back in February, Shake Shack fenced off the site of its upcoming Kentlands location, next to Starbucks, as it prepared to break ground for its third location in Montgomery County. The fencing came down and then back up before breaking ground a few weeks back. Below you’ll see the ground as crews prepare to begin construction.

Construction is expected to begin soon and could be complete by the end of the year. Shake Shack currently has locations in Cabin John Village (Potomac) and A couple miles away at Montgomery Mall (Bethesda).

Much like the Rockville/N.Bethesda location, the Kentlands location will feature entertainment such as live music, comedy shows, dramatic readings and other community events. From the Java Nation website: Serving the best artisan coffees and traditional food made with love and delivered with first class service. That has continued to be our mission since our inception in 2012. The concept for Java Nation came to creation when a local resident realized an absence for a great cup of coffee in the community. Beyond our focus to serve freshly roasted coffee to our local community, we source local produce, use environmentally friendly products, and support work from local artists.
