As 2024 winds down, we wanted to share with you some of the most-read articles of 2024. The Maryland Equitable Justice Commission (MEJC) has proposed 18 recommendations to address the state’s high incarceration rates and racial disparities in the criminal justice system, focusing on reforms in sentencing, reentry programs, trauma-informed care, youth justice, and parole processes. The initiatives aim to reduce the disproportionate incarceration of Black Marylanders, who make up 71% of the prison population despite being 30% of the state’s residents. (more…)


On Friday, Governor Wes Moore and Maryland’s congressional delegation announced the expansion of the Maryland Defense Technology Commercialization Center (DefTech) through a $585,463 Department of Defense grant and state matching funds, aiming to support 30 startups and small businesses in leveraging federal resources for technology commercialization.

A tavern established in 1750 in Annapolis (Anne Arundel County), a saloon that opened in 1775 (Baltimore), and an inn that opened its doors in Potomac in 1860 (Montgomery County) make up the three oldest restaurants in the state of Maryland that continue to operate today. Per Webster’s, a restaurant is a business place where meals or refreshments may be bought.

Governor Wes Moore has commented on the ban of beer and wine sales in Maryland grocery stores, “Maryland is one of only states in the nation that bans the sale of beer and wine in grocery stores – it’s time for a change. Lifting this ban puts people first and makes us more competitive. I look forward to working with our legislative partners to pass this overdue change.”

UPDATE: Grand Opening Weekend has been slightly postponed. Date TBD

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, located at 785 Rockville Pike, Suite G, in the Ritchie Center in Rockville, has announced its grand opening weekend will take place January 3 to January 6. The restaurant will occupy the space previously home to Superbowl Noodle House, which closed permanently in March. As part of the celebration, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue will raffle off a free iPhone 16.


On Wednesday, Governor Wes Moore announced the launch of the Maryland Energy Administration’s new program to expand the number of electric school buses in use across the state as part of his $90 million climate pledge. (more…)
