Maryland Challenges Proposal to End Gender Identity and Bullying Reporting in Schools

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown joined a multistate coalition opposing proposed changes to the U.S. Department of Education’s Civil Rights Data Collection, which would halt data on nonbinary students and remove protections related to gender identity and sex characteristics in bullying and harassment reporting. The coalition argues that the changes would harm vulnerable student populations, undermine enforcement of Title IX, increase administrative burdens on schools, and lead to inaccuracies in national education equity data. Maryland Is 2025’s 2nd Happiest State in America, According to Study

With only 44% of Americans saying they are “very satisfied” with the way their personal life is going, the personal-finance company WalletHub today released its report on 2025’s Happiest States in America, Despite the social media reaction that usually comes with these rankings, for just about every state, Maryland was ranked 2nd in the country.

Maryland Warns Against Harmful Methods for Controlling Spotted Lanternflies

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is advising residents on safe ways to manage spotted lanternflies, warning against using sticky traps, glue traps, insecticides, or harmful homemade mixtures, as these can unintentionally harm birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. Instead, officials recommend using circle traps to capture the insects and encourage residents to report sightings across the state to support research and management efforts. (more…)

State Law Enforcement Returns to Baltimore as Moore Focuses on Reducing Violent Crime

Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott announced the reinstatement of state law enforcement resources to support Baltimore’s public safety efforts, marking a renewed collaboration between state and local agencies to reduce violent crime. The partnership leverages personnel from the Maryland State Police and Maryland Transportation Authority Police to assist the Baltimore Police Department, following record declines in homicides and shootings and aiming to further improve community safety through coordinated enforcement and resource sharing.
