The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is advising residents on safe ways to manage spotted lanternflies, warning against using sticky traps, glue traps, insecticides, or harmful homemade mixtures, as these can unintentionally harm birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. Instead, officials recommend using circle traps to capture the insects and encourage residents to report sightings across the state to support research and management efforts. (more…)

Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott announced the reinstatement of state law enforcement resources to support Baltimore’s public safety efforts, marking a renewed collaboration between state and local agencies to reduce violent crime. The partnership leverages personnel from the Maryland State Police and Maryland Transportation Authority Police to assist the Baltimore Police Department, following record declines in homicides and shootings and aiming to further improve community safety through coordinated enforcement and resource sharing. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is reminding residents that, as of Tuesday, July 1, drivers are prohibited from making right turns at red traffic signals in designated downtown and town center areas across the county. The policy, part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023 (Bill 11-23), aims to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety in some of Montgomery County’s busiest corridors. (more…)
