Here’s a closer look at the final Top 10 for 2024, highlighting the teams that defined the season:
Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the Quince Orchard Cougars stood tall once again, defeating the Wise Pumas 24-13 in the Maryland Class 4A state championship. The victory marked Quince Orchard’s third title in four years, a fitting redemption after last year’s unexpected playoff exit.

Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, located at 616 Quince Orchard Rd. in Quince Orchard Plaza, will be showing the Maryland 4A State Championship football game on the big screen on Friday night. The game, featuring the Quince Orchard Cougars and Wise Pumas, will take place Friday night at 7:30pm.
Some games transcend the typical Friday night spectacle, and this year’s state final between the Wise Pumas and Quince Orchard Cougars is one of them. It’s not just about the trophy; it’s about legacy, evolution, and the ever-burning quest to cement greatness. One of these two teams has won every 4A state title since 2015. Coach Allie Coyle became the first woman to coach a Maryland boys’ soccer team to a State Championship when Blair defeated Richard Montgomery 1-0 last month (see video below). On Monday, ESPN W highlighted Coyle’s accomplishment in a social media post that has received over 46k likes in 18 hours.
Quince Orchard High School defeated Broadneck High School 48-13 to advance to the 4A Maryland State Championship Game where they will take on Dr. Henry J. Wise in the State Championship. Wise, who beat Broadneck in the State Championship game last year 21-0, defeated C.H. Flowers High School 35-0 to advance. Coincidentally, Quince Orchard’s last State Championship in 2022 came with a 32-7 win against C.H. Flowers. Quince Orchard defeated Wise 31-13 in 2021 to win the State Championship. The two teams will meet Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
