Montgomery County may not exactly be Cooperstown, NY or Canton, Ohio but we actually do have a few halls of fame in our county. This article will look at the county’s Sports Hall of Fame, Business Hall of Fame, and Human Rights Hall of Fame.

Walter Johnson (3-2) at Blair (4-1): Two Teams at a Crossroads: If downcounty football is your preference this week, Walter Johnson’s trip to Blair is the game to watch. Blair is looking to bounce back after a tough outing against Quince Orchard—a loss that was somewhat expected, but one that still left some positives for the Blazers to build on. Junior Rodriguez has been quietly effective in their ground game, a key factor for Blair’s chances of keeping pace in the region.

Walter Johnson, meanwhile, remains a bit of an enigma. They narrowly escaped Wootton last week, but the close call doesn’t inspire much confidence. Both teams have tough remaining schedules, with Blair in particular facing a brutal slate. A win here could be a turning point for either side, especially as they vie for playoff positioning. While WJ is capable of pulling off an upset, the Blazers’ rushing attack and defensive discipline give them the edge if they’ve mentally recovered from their visit to the Cougar Dome. Blair 31, WJ 21

As we hit the midway point of the MCPS high school football season, Montgomery County’s standout players and teams have begun to separate themselves from the pack. From dynamic quarterbacks lighting up the passing game to workhorse running backs carrying their teams, here’s a breakdown of the county’s statistical leaders through four weeks of action (does not include week 5 stats from this week), based on data submitted by MCPS coaches:

Passing Leaders: At the top of the leaderboard is Blake’s Kirby Matson, who’s been slinging the ball with precision and consistency. Matson has racked up 802 passing yards, leading a balanced Blake offense that’s made them a tough out for any opponent. Close behind is Wootton’s Humphries, who has thrown for 709 yards, keeping Wootton’s offense afloat despite a tough schedule.

As we head deeper into the season, the stakes are rising, and this week’s slate features some key matchups that could shape the playoff landscape. From a Game of the Week battle in Bethesda to blowout predictions, here’s your preview and predictions for Week 5 action:

Both teams find themselves near the bottom of the standings, both looking for their 1st win of the season.Expect a close, scrappy contest.
