Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass has introduced Bill 28-25, which would prohibit vehicles from standing, stopping, or parking in designated bikeways to improve cyclist safety and support the County’s Vision Zero goals. The legislation, co-sponsored by Councilmembers Fani-González, Friedson, and Luedtke, follows a rise in cyclist-involved crashes and aligns with similar laws in nearby jurisdictions.

The Montgomery County Council held a hearing on Monday, July 28, to review Expedited Bill 19-25, which proposed a seasonal exemption allowing landscape professionals to use gas-powered leaf blowers from October 1 to December 31, weekdays between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., with the exemption set to expire three years after enactment. Montgomery County based Team Senshi Karate earned an impressive 15 national medals: 3 gold, 8 silver, and 4 bronze at the 2025 USA National Karate Championships, held July 9–13 in Fort Worth, Texas. They were the only team from Maryland to compete at the event, which brought together over 3,000 top athletes from across the country. Only three weeks separate us from the opening whistles of official practices, and with it, the final chapter of our Montgomery County preseason coverage. Today, we turn our lens to the last five programs still waiting for their moment, four in the revamped 3A West and Poolesville, flying solo in 2A. The truth is, this group carries a disproportionate share of instability, inconsistency, and introspection. For some, 2025 represents a clean slate. For others, it’s about just staying afloat.
