The Montgomery College Foundation has launched its largest-ever fundraising campaign, aiming to raise $50 million to support scholarships, resources, and transformative opportunities for students and the Montgomery County community, with the campaign kickoff held at the newly dedicated Catherine and Isiah Leggett Math and Science Building.

Montgomery College has announced a generous gift from Mary Pat and Darren Alcus to establish the Alcus Family Endowed Athletic Scholarship, the College’s first endowed scholarship for student-athletes.


Montgomery College received a $100,000 grant for the fourth year as part of the Johnson Controls Community College Partnership Program new window. This year’s award will support HVAC scholarships, updated equipment for College HVAC labs, recruitment of new, diverse students, and support from academic coaches within MC’s Achieving the Promise Academy.

The Takoma Park Police Department has provided an update to its investigation of “Threats of Mass Violence” made by Yonas Alemseged Harris when he sent emails to Montgomery College and the Montgomery County Police Department threatening to “shoot up” the school.

The Takoma Park Police Department has an active arrest warrant for Yonas Alemseged Harris, 25, for Threat of Mass Violence after Harris sent what was described as “intimidating and threatening emails to Montgomery College officials/employees and the Montgomery County Police Department, indicating he intended to “shoot up” Montgomery College.”

Montgomery College has issued a “Code RED,” effective  1:30 pm on Friday, October 11th following a threat made toward the school.


As noted earlier this year, Montgomery College will host “In Conversation with Giancarlo Esposito” at the Robert E Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville on Thursday, November 7.  Esposito is perhaps best known for his role as Gustavo Fring in AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.”
