One of Montgomery County’s most beloved park icons just got a fresh new look. Porky the Litter Eater, the talking trash pig who has been delighting (and occasionally startling) generations of parkgoers at Cabin John Regional Park, recently received a full makeover from Montgomery Parks. The annual Garden of Lights display at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton will open for the season on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 5 p.m. Tickets go on sale Monday, October 13, 2025, at 10 a.m., and will be available online only at GardenofLights.org.

This fall, Montgomery Parks is launching a program to remove 461 non-native trees from parks and replace them with more ecologically sustainable species.
Park Police are reminding residents that beginning Monday, September 22, Sligo Creek Parkway between Wayne Avenue and Piney Branch Road will be closed for approximately two months to allow Purple Line crews to install tracks across the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Sligo Creek.
