Maryland-National Capital Park Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect involved in an aggravated assault that occurred on November 1, 2025, along the Northwest Branch Trail in Silver Spring. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) reports that during the ninth week of its Summer Traffic Task Force, officers conducted 107 traffic stops resulting in 17 DUI arrests and issued over 300 citations and warnings, with cumulative totals since the initiative began reaching 127 DUI arrests and more than 2,400 total enforcement actions. According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, 18-year-old Nicholas Blanco of Bethesda, a student at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, was sentenced to four years in prison, with all but 11 months suspended, and three years of probation upon release. (more…)


Maryland-National Capital Park Police (Montgomery County Division) responded to Lake Frank in Derwood on Saturday for a juvenile bald eagle caught in fishing line with a hook in its mouth. The eagle was rescued, treated at the Moon Owl Raptor Center, and will be released soon.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a driver who mistakenly followed GPS directions onto the Lake Needwood Westside Trail in Derwood was safely located uninjured with the help of a thermal drone and Montgomery County Park Police. (more…)


On Monday, FOX 5 shared a video submitted by a viewer showing a possible alligator sighting in a small pond at the SoccerPlex in Boyds/Germantown. Park Police said they checked the pond and surrounding area but found no evidence of an alligator.

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police Montgomery County Division have issued a statement after the Montgomery County Police Department announced that human remains were discovered in Rock Creek Regional Park on March 1, 2025. While the exact location of the remains is not being disclosed to protect the investigation, authorities assure the public that there is no immediate safety threat and encourage park visitors to continue their activities as usual.
