Updated this week with a “summer refresh,” The Eater DC ‘38 Essential Restaurants Around DC’ list offers a selection of defining culinary destinations that showcase DC and its suburbs. Four restaurants in Maryland are currently on the list (last updated on August 14th) with two of them in Montgomery County and two in Prince George’s County:
Hangry Joe’s has officially opened at 19730 Germantown Rd. Though the restaurant held a ribbon-cutting celebration on Wednesday, July 17, it didn’t officially open until Thursday, August 15th.

Raising Cane’s started its expansion into the D.C. metropolitan region when its first area restaurant in December 2022 in Sterling, VA (45545 Dulles Eastern Plaza). The first Maryland location opened in Towson in January 2023 and both stores featured lines out the door for months on several days of the week. Additional locations have opened across the state and now a College Park, MD location has been announced the corner of Route 1 and Knox Road.
MCPS is hosting its annual Back-to-School Fair on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Westfield Wheaton mall, located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road. (more…)

Business Insider recently published a list of the best sandwich shops in every state according to Yelp, and Full On Craft Eats & Drinks was named the best in Maryland. Michelle Houser Harris, co-owner, chef, and manager at Full On Craft was a contestant on season 14 of the Fox reality show Hell’s Kitchen back in 2015. (more…)
Signage is now up for Tory Burch at Westfield Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd) in Bethesda. The luxury women’s brand, known for its shoes, handbags, accessories, jewelry, and watches, will be located on the mall’s upper level and is expected to open this fall. (more…)
Raku, a popular sushi spot located at , has reopened after an approximate 23 week closure for a remodeling project. The restaurant recently shared the following message on its website site prior to opening:
Signage is up for Kafean Koffee at Westfield Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd) in Bethesda. The coffee shop will be located on the lower level of the mall, in the kiosk that was previously home to Moorenko’s. (more…)

Umi Hot Pot, Sushi & Seafood Buffet opened last Friday in Rockville and has been drawing huge crowds with waits often exceeding an hour for dinner service. The highly anticipated restaurant has taken the space that was recently home to Miller’s Ale House and previously home to Hooters and Shakey’s at 1471 Rockville Pike in Rockville. A first look is available below.
Yelp, a popular crowd-sourced review website, has put together its “Top 100 Sushi Spots 2024” list. Included at #73 was Ocean City’s Sushi Cafe, which can be found at 13711 Coastal Highway between 137th and 138th street at the popular Maryland vacation destination. Olney’s 168 Asian Burrito was the only other Maryland restaurant to make the list at #57 in the country.
