Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings, a New York-based, Michelin-recommended restaurant, will open on Wednesday, October 1 at Westfield Montgomery in Bethesda. The new location brings Shanghainese dim sum and Jiangsu-Zhejiang cuisine to the mall’s dining terrace in the former Urban Plates space, next to Shake Shack. (more…)

One of the most infamous episodes of Bar Rescue took Jon Taffer to Silver Spring, MD, where he confronted the struggling Piratz Tavern, located at 8402 Georgia Avenue. The pirate-themed bar sat in a prime downtown spot surrounded by office buildings, but its gimmick-heavy atmosphere, inconsistent service, and unprofessional staff alienated the very customers who might have kept it afloat. The Backyard BOB, a mobile brick oven bistro based in Boyds, has officially closed its food truck operations. The concept began as a dream of owner Bob McMahon, who wanted to create a small pizza-focused catering business for neighborhood and private events. Over time, the idea grew into a full-service mobile kitchen specializing in wood-fired pizzas, paninis, subs, and salads. (more…)

Commas Food Hall, which opened last month on Level 3 of Ellsworth Place in Silver Spring, will hold a grand opening celebration on Saturday, September 27 from 11am-9pm and Sunday, September 28 from 12-6pm.. The 13,000-square-foot space features 10 food and beverage vendors offering global cuisines, with two stalls still available for future operators. The event will include live entertainment, family activities, raffles, and food samples, introducing the community to the new dining destination. (more…)
