MoCo Restaurants Dominate 2023 Yelp MD Burb’s “Top 25 Places to Eat” List

Yelp’s “Yelp MD Burbs” released its list of “Top 25 Places to Eat in MD Burbs” and 18 of the 25 restaurants on the list are in Montgomery County, including four of the top five. Yelp is a popular company that publishes crowd-sourced reviews about businesses with a major focus on restaurants. According to Yelp, “The MD Burbs knows how to eat, and these locally-loved spots are proof of that! We’re excited to announce the MD Burbs’ Top 25 Places to Eat (2023), backed by Yelp data and approved by taste buds everywhere!”

The Clarks Lodge Coming to Former GrillMarx Location in Clarksburg

The Clarks Lodge Bar & Grill is coming to 12011 Snowden Farm Pkwy, the former site of GrillMarx in Clarksburg. The Clarks Lodge is owned by the same restaurant group behind The Creek Lodge, which opened at 5566 Norbeck Rd in October 2022, as well as Brews & Barrels in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands.

The menu is expected to be similar to that of The Creek Lodge and feature a selection of steaks, seafood, pasta, and a full bar. The restaurant is hoping to open in early February.

Frank’s Burgers to Open New Location This Weekend, District Bistro to Open Soon

Frank’s Burgers will open its new location at 11230 Grandview Ave in Wheaton-Glenmont (former site of Umberto’s), this Saturday, October 14. Nicaraguan restaurant El Chante, which currently splits space with Frank’s Burger Place at 11265 Triangle Ln, will take over that entire space once the new Frank’s opens.

The new Grandview Ave location will be split into two restaurant concepts, with Frank’s on one side and District Bistro on the other, united by a kitchen in the back. According to owner Pedro Matamoros, District Bistro is a new American concept that is focused on “seasonality and use of local ingredients when permitted.” Menu items at District Bistro will include beef tartare, steak frites, roasted duck and lamb bolognaise, and its bar will focus on classic cocktails like Martinis and Manhattans. We will provide an opening date for District Bistro when it is announced.

Nick’s Diner Reopens After Temporary Closure Due to Water Main Break

Nick’s Diner at 11199 Veirs Mill Rd in Wheaton has announced that its water supply has been restored and the restaurant is back open for business. The restaurant had posted the following message on its social media pages on Saturday morning: “Attention valued patrons, due to a water main break, Nick’s Diner is temporarily closed. Stay tuned for updates. Thank you for understanding.”

TCBY is Coming to Silver Spring

Coming soon signage is up for TCBY (The Country’s Best Yogurt) at 8563 Fenton St in Silver Spring, according to a report by Source of the Spring. The frozen yogurt spot is opening in the space previously occupied by Smoothie King, which closed in 2022. Menu items include soft serve frozen yogurt, milkshakes, frozen coffee, and parfaits. TCBY had multiple locations in Montgomery County in the 80’s and 90’s.

New and Coming Soon to Rio in Gaithersburg (October 2023)

Access to the outdoor dining area/pier will be via two gangways attached to the existing boardwalk. The new structure projects 10’-2” from the boardwalk and will be 12 feet tall from the finished floor. Gaithersburg Planning Staff supports the proposal for a dining pier in the Rio Washingtonian Lake, finding it in compliance with the approved sketch plan and Schematic Development Plan SDP- 9462-2023. “The dining pier will provide additional outdoor seating for Copper Canyon and will enhance the use of lake. There remains adequate parking for the proposed commercial addition and all applicable development standards have been met.” No timeframe for the pier has been announced.

Pho Nom Nom Now Open in Gaithersburg

Pho Nom Nom is now open at 18509 N Frederick Ave at Gaithersburg S.C. (that’s the name of the shopping center), at the former site of Pho Viet Saigon. Pho Nom Nom has an additional location at 842 Rockville Pike. The restaurant specializes in authentic Vietnamese cuisine, including pho, banh mi, noodles and grilled dishes. Full menu can seen below.

Gaithersburg S.C. is home to MoCo’s only Bruster’s and Corner Pizza. The shopping center was also once home to Hechinger, the hardware store that once had over 130 locations in the Mid-Atlantic.

Bagels ‘n Grinds and a “Modernized” Potomac Pizza Coming to Potomac Village

Bagels & Grinds is coming to 9812 Falls Road in the Potomac Village shopping center. The New York-style bagel spot will be located in the space that was previously occupied by The Potomac Village Deli. Bagels & Grinds is owned by Adam and Courtney Greenberg, owners of Potomac Pizza and the recently acquired Hunter’s Bar and Grill, both of which are also located in Potomac Village. Bagels ‘n Grinds is expected to open mid-2024. In a press release, the company also announced plans to renovate the original Potomac Pizza location, which includes adding a full bar.
