Moe’s Southwest Grill at 19222 Montgomery Village Ave in the Montgomery Village Center has been closed the past week. Despite being listed as “open” on Moes.com and Google, a representative from Moe’s told us, “Our records indicate that this location is currently closed.” The restaurant originally opened in February 2022.
Back in May we let you know that Ruta Ukrainian Restaurant was coming to 4862 Cordell Ave in Bethesda, the former site of Momo Chicken. The restaurant opened last month and our very own Mr. MoCo recently stopped by to support the restaurant (video below).
Taco De Birria by Rice Bar is now open at 14 Bureau Dr in the Diamond Square shopping center in Gaithersburg. The restaurant is located in the space previously occupied by Rooh Bistro, which opened and closed in 2020.

Taipei Tokyo at 14921 Shady Grove Rd D in the Fallsgrove Village Center in Rockville has announced it will close this month. The restaurant will be replaced by Kung Fu 12 Szechuan, which is expected to open relatively soon after taking over the location.

To celebrate National Fried Chicken Day earlier this summer, popular restaurant review website Yelp released its list of the best friend chicken spots in each state. The list was created by the “Yelp Elite Squad” which is comprised of reviewers who have reached elite status in the website’s tier system. The restaurant chosen for Maryland is BRD.
Gambero Rosso, an Italian food and wine magazine that was founded in 1986, has been publishing its restaurant guide since 1990. The guide, Ristoranti d’Italia, describes the best Italian restaurants across the world. For each place it attributes a rating from 60 to 100 and, only for the best restaurants, a number of forchette (‘forks’) ranging from 1 to 3. Only one Italian restaurant from Maryland has ever earned a forchette (fork)— IL Pizzico in Rockville earned una forchetta/one fork (video of the experience available below).
