Tuesday, December 9th marks the 67th day of school for MCPS, a milestone that has taken on unexpected cultural significance thanks to a simple phrase, or rather, a simple pair of numbers, that has swept through classrooms, hallways, and social media with surprising force.
The PJ Masks will be making a special appearance at Westfield Wheaton next week, offering families the chance to meet the popular children’s characters in person.
As Maryland’s first rounds of winter weather brought confusion and frustration for many families this week, both Howard County Public Schools (HCPSS) and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) issued messages explaining their decision-making processes. While both districts emphasized safety, forecasts, and lessons learned, the tone and content of their communications revealed notably different approaches.
Residents in Montgomery County, the state of Maryland, and across the country are receiving fraudulent text messages claiming to be from Amazon about a “safety recall” on a recently purchased product. The message, which appears professional at first glance, instructs recipients to stop using the supposed product immediately and to click a link for a refund. It also includes a fake order ID and emphasizes that “your safety is our top priority.”
In August, we reported that Chipotle planned to bring a new standalone location to Gaithersburg. The project is officially moving ahead, as the City of Gaithersburg Planning Commission has approved the 2,385SF restaurant that will also have a drive-thru. The build will require demolishing an old bank building on the property, a structure that has not operated as a bank for at least ten years.
Rockville city government and all city facilities will be closed on Dec. 25 for Christmas and Jan. 1 for New Year’s, with City Hall also closing temporarily on Dec. 11 for an employee recognition event. Holiday week trash and recycling schedules will shift for Thursday customers, parking will be free at city-owned meters on both holidays, and several city facilities will operate on limited hours around Dec. 24, 26, and 31. Uchiko, the nationally acclaimed sister concept to Austin’s award-winning Uchi, is officially moving forward with its first Maryland location in Bethesda. According to county records, the restaurant has received its permit to begin a $4.6 million interior build-out at 7315 Wisconsin Avenue, the former Ruth’s Chris Steak House space. The 9,000 SF restaurant is now slated for a mid-2026 debut, marking one of the region’s most anticipated culinary arrivals.
