During Thursday, October 16th’s Montgomery County Board of Education presentation, Chief Academic Officer Niki T. Porter and Chief of District Operations Adnan Mamoon outlined new considerations for the ongoing Crown Boundary Study, including the potential to use the planned Crown High School as a temporary holding site for other schools undergoing major renovation or reconstruction.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is investigating an incident at Sherwood High School after senior class t-shirts distributed this week included a combination of letters and numbers that evoked a racial slur. In a letter sent to students, families, and staff, district leaders said the design, which was intended to celebrate the Class of 2026, appeared to resemble the N-word and described the situation as “unacceptable and wrong.”

Governor Wes Moore announced $4 million in new funding through Maryland’s Road to Careers program to expand workforce training in the state’s transportation and construction sectors. The initiative, a $24 million partnership between the Maryland Department of Labor and the Maryland Department of Transportation, supports apprenticeship opportunities and provides services such as childcare, transportation, and mental health resources to help participants complete training and secure employment. The City of Takoma Park will host its annual Monster Bash on Saturday, October 25, from 1pm to approximately 4pm. The free community event, organized by the Takoma Park Recreation Department, will kick off in the parking lot of Takoma Park Middle School at 7611 Piney Branch Road.
