Montgomery County’s Office of Food Systems Resilience is launching a three-part strategy to improve local food recovery efforts, aiming to reduce waste and expand access to nutritious food by enhancing infrastructure, coordination, and operational support. Montgomery College students Danae “Samantha” Flores-Tene and Rodin Ruiz were selected as recipients of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, which provides up to $55,000 per year to support community college students transferring to four-year institutions. On the morning of Friday, May 16, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a middle-of-the-row townhouse fire on the 11900 block of Roan Ln. in Gaithersburg. The accidental blaze caused extensive damage estimated at approximately $700K with three different families displaced, including the Bett family– mother and her three children. The community is actively supporting the family through a GoFundMe fundraiser.

On Sunday evening, a vehicle collision occurred at 23900 Grapevine Ridge Terrace, near the intersection of Snowden Farm Parkway and Burdette Forest Road in Clarksburg. According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the “vehicle flipped over 10 feet off the roadway.”
