The Safeway at 1800 Rockville Pike, located on the ground level of the Galvan at Twinbrook complex, has begun a store closing sale. Currently, the store is offering 30% off select merchandise, including frozen groceries, household items, and health and beauty products. Joann Fabrics & Crafts has announced it is closing 500 of its 800 stores, including its locations at 2A Bureau Dr in Gaithersburg and 11160 Veirs Mill Rd Unit 180 in Wheaton. Additional Maryland locations closing include Bel Air, Brandywine, California, Columbia, Hagerstown, Frederick, Lavale, Parkville, and Prince Frederick. Last May we let you know that Mui, a modern Japanese-inspired restaurant, is coming to Pike & Rose. There hasn’t been much movement since then, but the upcoming restaurant has received a $550,000 permit to begin construction on interior renovations.

In October, Buy Buy Baby announced that it will be closing all existing stores and transforming into a digital-first brand “focusing all our energy on providing an exceptional online shopping experience.” As the last of the remaining stores set to close, the Buy Buy Baby brand has been purchased by the owner of Bed Bath & Beyond. The first Buy Buy Baby store opened in Rockville, MD in 1996.
