The third annual “Taste of Rio” event is set for Sunday, September 28th from 2pm-6pm. The annual culinary event held at the Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg, Maryland, designed to highlight the diverse dining options available at the popular shopping and entertainment complex.

The two bronze statues of a cat and a bear have been a fixture at Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront for years, but did you know that they have a name and a story behind them? Silver Diner has just opened its new 1,581 square-foot pergola for outdoor dining at Silver Diner RIO (9811 Washingtonian Blvd in Gaithersburg). The structure now features a louvered roof and walls equipped with a retracting window and roof system.

“Remember that guy who used to paint at Rio?” Many do. If you walked through Rio in Gaithersburg between 2000 and 2016, you likely saw George Petridis working on one of his beautiful paintings, with many of his other works on display in the atrium just outside the movie theater. For more than 15 years, Petridis showcased his art and continually crafted new pieces, often interacting with those who stopped to appreciate his work amid the bustle of the Rio crowd.
In August, we let you know that Koi Sushi will be taking the vacant space at 201 Boardwalk Place between Chipotle and Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls in Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront. Construction is underway and the restaurant should open later this year. (more…)

Peterson Cos. has requested schematic development plan approval for up to 500 multi-family residential units and 43,000 SF of retail uses in four buildings located throughout the Washingtonian Center at Rio in Gaithersburg.
Last month we let you know that Kareem’s Lebanese Kitchen is set to make a splash at Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront. Now we know the restaurant will be taking over the space formerly occupied by Bach to Rock at 212 Boardwalk Place. An opening timeframe is not yet available.
