The 11th annual Montgomery County “Friendship Picnic” will again bring people of many cultures and faiths together to celebrate the County’s diversity. The free picnic, whose goal is to enable people to make new friends and build a stronger community, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Wheaton Regional Park.

Three Maryland eateries, all located in Montgomery County, have been recognized by Eater DC on their list of “Best Sandwiches Around DC Right Now.” While there are many wonderful sandwiches across the county, Wheaton, Takoma Park, and Bethesda are now firmly on the map for serious sandwich enthusiasts.
An enduring chapter in Wheaton’s dining history has come to a close. Cristina Ristorante Italiano, the beloved neighborhood Italian restaurant that has been a staple for over two decades, closed its doors permanently on Monday after making the decision to not renew the expiring lease.
DC Metro has the most escalators (and elevators) of any transit system in North America with a total of 674. Metro’s longest escalator is at the Wheaton station right here in Montgomery County. The 230 ft. escalator is the longest single span escalator in the entire western hemisphere (video below).

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is hosting its annual Back-to-School Fair on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 am to 1 pm at Westfield Wheaton mall. This free event is a great opportunity for families to prepare for the upcoming school year.
In April, Biz Journals reported that Unibal-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) had defaulted on a roughly $235 million securitized loan tied to Westfield Wheaton, the largest mall in suburban Maryland (DC Region) and the fourth largest in the Greater Washington area. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will offer low-cost adult bike classes this fall, including 11 Learn to Ride sessions, one Basic Skills class, and two free walk-up e-scooter classes, with registration required and bicycles and helmets provided for participants.
