Driver Backs Into Building in Stoney Mill Square (Near Korean Korner) Sunday Evening

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) have responded to the 12200blk Veirs Mill Rd., near Randolph Rd. (in the area of Korean Corner), for a collision involving a driver backing a vehicle up into the building in the Stoney Mill Square shopping center at approximately 5:30pm.

The vehicle primarily hit the entrance of Quickway and partially hit the entrance of King Pollo. Several units have responded and a building inspector has been requested. One witness has claimed that a driver hit another car before backing into the building. No word on injuries or a cause for the collision at this moment. Five Free Fall Events This Weekend in MoCo

It will be a great opportunity to learn more about Montgomery College classes, offerings, scholarships and financial assistance programs. There will be information available about WDCE (Workforce Development and Continuing Education) offerings, such as information technology, cosmetology, real estate, youth programs, early childhood education, automotive technology and building trades, and more.

For residents seeking information in Spanish, the College’s Hispanic Business Institute and the Early Childhood Education program will have Spanish-speaking representatives on site to answer questions. The whole family is welcome at this free event. Held rain or shine.

Montgomery County Bike Summit Takes Place October 29

The 4th Great Montgomery County Bike Summit takes place Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023 at the Wheaton Library and Recreation Center, 11701 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20902, organized by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA). Media representatives are invited and may register via the summit Web page, waba.org/MoCoSummit2023.

This free event will advance the cause of safe biking for all across Montgomery County. It will bring together policy-makers and advocates for presentations and panel discussion, charting progress toward building out the network of trails and protected bicycling lanes and meeting the county’s and State of Maryland’s Vision Zero commitments.

Additional Himalayan Cats Still On The Loose; Over 50 Found in Montgomery County Late This Past Summer

Over 50 Himalayan cats and kittens have been found in the Wheaton area, most of them near the Sligo Creek Trail or in Wheaton Regional Park since late August (some were also found in nearby neighborhoods). Citizens have been engaged in an active effort to search for these cats and kittens and report sightings. Yesterday, the Montgomery County Cat Coalition (MC C³) stated that more cats are still on the loose and continue to be found:

“Wheaton area residents, we need your help in locating any more of the dumped Himalayan cats that are still outdoors. Though many have been rescued, some of them are still out there and these cats continue to be found. Email [email protected], if you see one of these cats. We are grateful to Dr. Hannah Levy and her staff at Cozy Cats Vet: A Cat Practice for the initial exams and treatments.

Wheaton Mall and MCPD to Host “Boo Bash”

Westfield Wheaton Mall (11160 Veirs Mill Rd) and Montgomery County Police will host their 2nd annual Boo Bash on Sunday, October 29 from 12-3pm. According to Westfield, “this free Halloween event offers festive fun for all ages including a safety stage show, costume contest and a card and candy donation design center (in partnership with the National Institute of Health) benefitting children who are unable to trick-or-treat this year. Attendees can get creative with cupcake decorating, pumpkin painting, and witnessing a “zombie apocalypse” via social media. After getting down at a family dance party, enjoy trick-or-treating throughout the mall until 4pm. All activities will take place in the lower level Macy’s Court.

New Dunkin’ Coming to Wheaton-Glenmont

Dunkin’ will be taking over the space that was previously home to $2.49 Cleaners, at 12196 Georgia Ave. in Wheaton-Glenmont, on the same block as Trippy’s Tacos and Seafood in the Buff and near Popeyes. An opening timeframe is not yet available for the store, but it appears the store will have a drive-thru (or at least a walk-up window) based on the renderings in the featured photo.

Dunkin’ has been making a big push lately in Montgomery County, with new locations at the Layhill Center (14328 Layhill Rd) in Silver Spring and in the Goshen Crossing Shopping Center in Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village, where it has taken over the former Capital One Bank building at 20000 Goshen Rd. Last December, we let you know that Dunkin’ is continuing its massive expansion across the country and within MoCo, and there are currently an additional four locations in the works with more likely to come.

Verny Varela is an arranger, composer, singer and flutist who born in Cali, Colombia, and raised in the “Barrio Obrero,” Verny started singing and playing with his father’s band, El Nuevo Son. In 1996, he sang with Ismael Miranda, Adalberto Santiago, Pete “El Conde” Rodríguez and the Fania All Stars, in Cali and in Tulua. In 1997, Verny became the lead singer in the Gabino Pampini Band, and later toured Europe and the U.S. with Tito Gomez.”

The special display of Lotus is expected to have at least 20 vehicles with the ACBC founder’s initials. Models expected will include a Seven and a Type Nine. There also will be displays of Elite, Elan, Europa, Eclat, Esprit, Elise, Exige and Evora. The cars will represent Lotus models from the 1950s to the 2020s. The special display will be located at the front of the show field, near the stage. In addition to the vehicles on display, with owners nearby to provide details and histories, the show will have a flea market and a car sales area. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Visitors can bring their own food to the show area. Music will be provided by Blue Sky Five.

County Executive Elrich Will Lead Tribute to Latin Leaders and Salsa of ‘Verny Varela’ Will Be Featured at Wheaton TGIF Encore Concert on Friday, Oct. 13

Per Montgomery County: The salsa of Verny Varela will headline the closing concert of the Wheaton TGIF Friday Encore fall series and Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will lead tributes to Latin leaders and employees on Friday, Oct. 13. The performance is part of a month of concerts that join in the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month The final event in the series, “Que Bonita Bandera,” invites community members to wear the colors representing the diversity of the County.

Marian Fryer Town Plaza is adjacent to the Wheaton Metro Station. The TGIF party will begin on the plaza at 5 p.m. with a special set by El Zol Radio. Verny Varela will play at 6 p.m. Parking is available in the building at 2425 Reedie Dr.
