On December 4, 2024, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) led a multi-agency traffic safety initiative along MD Route 355, focusing on aggressive driving, pedestrian safety, distracted driving, seat belt compliance, and impaired driving. The operation, involving approximately 60 officers, resulted in 382 traffic stops, 165 citations, 330 warnings, 19 repair orders, two impaired driving arrests, and enhanced pedestrian and commercial vehicle safety enforcement efforts. Alert Montgomery has sent out a ‘Severe Traffic Alert’ for a traffic incident that closes River Road (MD-190) in both directions at Ardnave Place. The alerts drivers to expect significant delays and seek alternate routes.
A broken gas line has been reported in the vicinity of 14th Ave. and Erskine Street in Takoma Park. Washington Gas is responding to the situation, but the estimated arrival time for their crew is currently unknown.
The Takoma Park Police Department has shared that on or about December 20, 2024, north and southbound traffic on Carroll Avenue will be limited to right turns only at the intersection with University Boulevard (MD 193) for approximately five weeks.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, one person was trapped and extricated from a passenger car by emergency responders and was transported with Priority 2 trauma. Some lanes remain blocked as of 4pm.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has begun a $5.2 million safety and resurfacing project on a 2.76-mile stretch of MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue), including upgrades to sidewalks, traffic barriers, signage, and drainage systems, with completion expected by next summer.
Maryland State Police (MSP) shared via social media that all lanes of northbound I-95 at 198 were closed for a police investigation on Monday morning.
