On Friday, a hit-and-run crash on I-270 at around 5 a.m. claimed the lives of Luis Isaac Bran, 17, of Gaithersburg, and Rebeca Gabriela Vasquez Moreno, 16, from El Salvador. They were passengers in a 2018 Toyota RAV4 that was struck by a BMW, which then fled the scene. In the past 24 hours, a GoFundMe fundraiser started by the victims’ families has raised over $12,000. Alert Montgomery has issued a traffic advisory on Friday morning: “Northbound I-270 is closed between Montrose Road and West Montgomery Avenue due to a traffic collision. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect significant delays. For more information, contact Maryland State Police.”

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the scene of a vehicle fire on southbound I-270 on Sunday evening at approximately 6pm.
Update: According to Maryland State Police, “At around 7:15pm last night in the area of NB 270, north of Watkins Mill Road, troopers responded to a crash that injured a Rockville Barrack trooper. Preliminary investigation indicates he was in his marked patrol vehicle with his emergency equipment activated, responding to assist another trooper who was investigating a suspected DUI crash. The trooper was struck by a Toyota Sequoia SUV while attempting to make a U-turn at the center median emergency crossover. The driver of the Sequoia was not injured. The trooper was transported to Suburban Hospital.” (more…)
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) are on the scene of a collision with roll over on southbound I-270 just prior to I370.
According to the Maryland State Highway Administration, all northbound lanes of I-270 are now open at MD 109 following a fatal collision that occurred on Monday, May 13. There are still lanes closed on SB I-270 and traffic remains heavy.
