Two Montgomery County artists are among the finalists competing in this year’s Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards, as Strathmore marks the competition’s 10th anniversary with a live concert and awards ceremony later this spring.

Silver Spring rapper and songwriter She-unO and Clarksburg ninth grader Saanvi Purohit were selected from a competitive field representing Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The finalists will perform original music on Friday, April 24 at 7:30pm at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, where winners will be announced following live performances and feedback from industry judges.


Three Clarksburg middle schoolers turned a snow day into a community-wide effort, spending hours helping neighbors dig out after the recent winter storm and earning praise across social media for their work ethic, teamwork, and kindness.

A Montgomery County man won $450,000 in the January 17 Bonus Match 5 drawing after repeatedly playing the same set of numbers across nine combinations. Lottery officials said the winner plans to use the prize to fund his grandchildren’s college education, and the Clarksburg retailer that sold the ticket will receive a bonus for the sale. Day & Night Cereal Bar is opening a new location on the lower level of the Women’s Exchange Building at 333 N. Charles Street in Baltimore, according to Baltimore Fishbowl. The cereal-themed dessert spot previously operated a location at The Clarksburg Premium Outlets from 2021 to 2023. (more…)
