Montgomery County has announced two free fireworks celebrations: Germantown Glory on Friday, July 4 at South Germantown Recreational Park and Mid-County Sparkles on Saturday, July 5 at Albert Einstein High School, both starting at 7 p.m. with live music and fireworks set for 9:15 p.m. In addition to the Montgomery County government events, fireworks will also take place at Gaithersburg’s SummerFest on Saturday, June 28 at Bohrer Park and at Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 4 at Mattie J.T. Montgomery County, in partnership with local governments and organizations, will host its 28th annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, featuring live performances, vendors, food, and community programming under the theme “Pushing Back – The Fight for Freedom is Not Over.” The festivities begin with the African American Living Legends Awards Ceremony on June 20, honoring residents over age 75 for their significant contributions to the county, as leaders emphasize the importance of preserving and celebrating African American history and culture. The South Germantown Adventure Playground, located at 17920 Germantown Park Dr., will be closed for construction from summer 2025 through spring 2026. The new playground will feature inclusive, high-performance play areas, nature play, intergenerational activities, and opportunities for learning and social connection.

Founded in 1976 by Zen Master Gosung Shin, the American Zen College is located on a 12-acre farm at 16819 Germantown Road in Germantown, dedicated to practicing and teaching Zen Buddhism. While perhaps not widely known to all Marylanders, this institution holds a significant place in the propagation of Zen in the United States and houses a remarkably ancient artifact.
The Washington Post’s Tom Sietsema has been the newspaper’s food critic for 25 years. This past week he released his review of Germantown, MD’s Mamma Lena and praised its “bountiful portions of expertly made pastas and more.”

The African American Health Program will host a free, family-friendly Community Day event in Germantown focused on health and wellness for all Montgomery County residents, featuring screenings, workshops, youth activities, and mental health resources, with a theme of empowering individuals to take control of their health.
