Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a townhouse fire in the 13100 block of Diamond Hill Court, off Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown, on Sunday afternoon. The fire originated from a malfunctioning exterior air conditioning unit and spread up the vinyl siding into the second floor and roof of the end-of-row two-story townhouse. (more…)

3M and Discovery Education have announced the 2025 3M Young Scientist Challenge winners, selecting 32 state merit winners along with four honorable mention recipients. Among those recognized is Vishagan Aranganathan of Montgomery County. Vishagan, a Kingsview Middle School graduate from Germantown, will be starting his freshman year at Northwest High School in Germantown this fall.
Known as the nation’s premier middle school science competition, the 3M Young Scientist Challenge celebrates exemplary innovations from young scientists that highlight how science can improve the world. Designed for students in grades 5–8, the competition invites participants to submit brief videos outlining their creative solutions to everyday problems. Judges evaluate each entry based on creativity, scientific knowledge, and communication skills.

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at approximately 9:18 pm, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) received a 911 call from a mother reporting that her 8-year-old autistic daughter was missing from their home. MCPD shared the story of community members and 5th District officers safely locating the young girl.
