Following the recognition of social studies resource teacher Ken Buffum’s innovative teaching methods, Topps took an exciting step to further engage the students of Damascus High School. In a heartwarming gesture, the trading card company sent several packs of sports cards to Buffum’s class, allowing the students to experience firsthand the thrill of opening packs and the excitement surrounding collectible cards.

This year, Montgomery County Public Schools, Baltimore City Public Schools and Washington County Public Schools joined Frederick County Public Schools as school districts that implemented girls’ flag football during the Fall 2024 season. The first ever state tournament was held yesterday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore and Clarksburg High School (MCPS) won the first ever State Championship for Flag Football.

The Montgomery County Office of Human Rights is accepting nominations for its Human Rights Hall of Fame, honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to civil rights and social justice within the County, with the nomination period closing on Nov. 25 and the induction ceremony set for Dec. 15 at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has charged Adelaida Consuelo Zacarias Chacon, of Germantown, and Reyna Gomez Lopez, of Philadelphia, with first-degree conspiracy to commit murder after an investigation revealed that Chacon allegedly paid Gomez Lopez to arrange a murder-for-hire plot against her ex-boyfriend.

Good Fortune Cafe, which has been serving the area since 1994 (according to its website), closed in August at 237 Kentlands Place. At the time an employee shared that they would be returning later in the year in the space that has been home to Happy Uncle in Germantown’s Clopper’s Mill shopping center (18022 Mateny Rd.) for more than 20 years. Today, it was confirmed by Happy Uncle that Good Fortune would be taking over early next year.
