Metro riders will have a sweeter commute this season as WMATA debuts its newest fleet of holiday-wrapped Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess vehicles. The festive designs, which will begin appearing in the coming days, feature a bright red backdrop transformed into a candy-filled winter wonderland. The theme, “making your ride sweeter,” extends inside the holiday-wrapped train, where the interior has also been decorated to match the cheerful, seasonal look.

Metro has secured more than $50 million in new federal funding to modernize its bus fleet, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced Wednesday. The agency will receive $50,322,380 through the FY 2025 Low or No-Emission Grant Program, supporting the purchase of 50 new 40-foot diesel-electric hybrid buses.

Metro has officially launched the first phase of its revamped bike parking program, introducing new app-based bike lockers now available at the Foggy Bottom and Eastern Market Metrorail stations. The rollout marks the beginning of a multi-year upgrade aimed at making bike-to-rail travel easier, safer, and more convenient for riders across the region.

Metrobus riders across the region can now pay their fares with a simple tap. Metro has officially expanded its “Tap. Ride. Go.” contactless payment system to all Metrobus routes, allowing customers to use a contactless credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay directly on bus farebox readers.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 16, Metro will close Bethesda station to support Maryland Department of Transportation’s activities to advance Purple Line construction. Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between Friendship Heights and Medical Center all weekend.

Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. to help thousands of runners get to the start line for the 50th Marine Corps Marathon, one of the region’s most celebrated annual events. Trains will run frequently throughout the day, making Metrorail the easiest way to get around and avoid traffic and road closures.
