Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the scene of a collision that occurred on southbound I-270 prior to Shady Grove Road at approximately 7:30am on Saturday morning.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the crash resulted to vehicles on both shoulders with multiple lanes blocked and residual traffic expected. There were no injuries.
The U.S. Marshals and Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department are seeking the public’s help in locating a man who escaped the Virginia Department of Corrections in August and is suspected of a Sept. 1 carjacking in Gaithersburg, Maryland. A combined reward of up to $20,000 is now being offered. The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Roulack’s arrest. Crime Solvers of Maryland is offering up $10,000. Anyone with information about Roulack’s location is urged to contact the U.S. Marshals at 1-877-WANTED2, or tips can be submitted via the U.S. Marshals Tips App.
Naseem Roulack, 21, has been on the run from the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force since Aug. 12. He is facing kidnapping, armed robbery, armed carjacking, first-degree assault and vehicle theft charges for the Gaithersburg incident. Roulack was serving a 13-year sentence for charges of aggravated malicious wounding, grand larceny and hit-and-run when he escaped custody while getting medical help at St. Mary’s Hospital in Henrico, Virginia.

Panelists from companies in all stages of the value chain spectrum included Dr. Andrew Lees, Founder of Fina Biosolutions, Benjamin Moutier, Senior Vice-President, Vaccines and Immune Therapies at AstraZeneca, Dr. Helen Sabzevari President & CEO of Precigen, and Dr. Frederick Holtsberg, Chief Scientific Officer of Integrated BioTherapeutics.
This end-to-end capability in close geographical proximity gives companies a unique advantage and is rare to find in other markets, even established ones like San Francisco and Boston. In fact, only a handful of places worldwide offer the combination of infrastructure, expertise, and collaboration found in Montgomery County and if diversity, education and population density are taken into consideration – then Montgomery County standouts even more.
“Gaithersburg is one of the six places in the world where we can do what we’re doing,” explained Benjamin Moutier, Senior Vice-President, Vaccines and Immune Therapies, AstraZeneca. “We have the right partners at every step of the value chain [in Montgomery County].”

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) has responded to a call for a fire at a three-story garden apartment at 900 Clopper Rd., near Metropolitan Grove Rd. in Gaithersburg shortly before 8pm on Friday night.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, smoke coming from the building was revealed to stem from a fire on the second floor. Multiple units have responded, the building has been evacuated, and “Fire Department activity closes Clopper Road (MD-117) from Metropolitan Grove Road to Firstfield Road. Expect significant delays. Seek alternate route.”

The U.S. Marshals Service will hold an auction for the multimillion dollar car collection of the imprisoned YouTube star Bill Omar Carrasquillo on October 13th in Baltimore, MD. The live auction will include over 55 cars, motorcycles, ATV, and other vehicles seized from Carrasquillo, also known as “Omi In A Hellcat”. The collection includes exotic cars like Lamborghinis and Bentleys, Jeeps and other SUVs. The auction will be held at the historic B&O Railroad Museum on October 13th, with a preview day on Thursday, October 12th starting at 11 am EST. Also available in a separate online sale is a collection of jewelry seized from Carrasquillo along with other items from other cases.
Earlier this year, Carrasquillo was sentenced to 5 ½ years in prison for crimes arising from a wide-ranging criminal scheme that involved piracy of cable TV, access device fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and hundreds of thousands of dollars of copyright infringement. In addition to his prison sentence, Carrasquillo is subject to a $30 million forfeiture money judgment and must pay $15 million in restitution.The event is open to the public. The U.S. Marshals in Connecticut, along with Middleton and New Haven police, arrested today a man wanted out of Silver Spring, Maryland, for assault and other charges. Oliver Agyopong, 21, was wanted on charges of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, assault first-degree, assault second-degree, use of a firearm in a violent crime, and theft.
Per U.S. Marshals Service: “Since March, Montgomery County detectives have been investigating several armed robberies in the Silver Spring area of Maryland. Agyapong and two co-defendants were identified as suspects in some of the robberies, and a warrant was issued for their arrest. Oliver was the last suspect arrested in the trio.

Per the Maryland Attorney General’s Office: Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced today that the State has reached a multistate settlement with Blackbaud, Inc., a software company, to resolve allegations that Blackbaud failed to protect consumers’ personal information when it experienced a data breach in 2020 that impacted thousands of nonprofit organizations nationwide, including 290 nonprofits in Maryland. Under the settlement, Blackbaud has agreed to overhaul its data security and breach notification practices and make a $49.5 million payment to the states, of which Maryland will receive $820,156.
Blackbaud provides software to manage constituent data, including contact and demographic information, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial information, employment and wealth information, donation history, and protected health information to various nonprofit organizations, including charities, higher education institutions, K-12 schools, healthcare organizations, religious organizations, and cultural organizations. This type of highly sensitive data was exposed during the 2020 data breach, impacting over 13,000 Blackbaud nonprofit organizations nationwide.
Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District Investigative Section are investigating a residential burglary that occurred in the 3900 block of Wendy Lane in Aspen Hill, on Sunday, September 3, 2023. Detectives have released surveillance video of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.
The investigation by detectives has revealed that at approximately 11:54 p.m., the suspect forced entry into the residence, stole property and left the residence. Detectives reviewed the surveillance footage of a camera inside the home and obtained a description of the suspect. The suspect is described as a 50-year-old male, with short hair, approximately 5-feet, 7-inches tall and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing glasses, a dark shot sleeve collared shirt and blue jeans.
Silky Gem, which offers crystal candies inspired by Vietnamese Lunar new year traditions, is now open at 332 Main St in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood. The store has been described as the first crystal candy shop to open in the United States (photos below).
The shop has held a few events prior to its grand opening and offers a variety of the same crystal candies many have seen on the Silky Gem social media accounts. The grand opening was initially scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 24th, but had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, opening earlier this week. Store hours are 12pm-8pm daily, closed on Tuesdays.
