Beginning its second year, the MCPS Virtual Academy will provide full-time virtual learning to nearly 1,800 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The Virtual Academy partners with students’ home schools, so students continue to have access to services, including meals, extracurricular activities and athletics.
The secondary Virtual Academy runs an alternating “block” schedule, organized into “A Days” and “B Days.” Each grade level does have one class that meets every day for a shorter period of time, and the lunch block for elementary, middle, and high school students are all aligned. I’m addition to Harriet Tubman Elementary School becoming the 210th MCPS school, MCPS saw revitalizations/additions at John F. Kennedy High School (Silver Spring), Odessa Shannon Middle School (Silver Spring), and Westbrook Elementary School (Bethesda).
John F. Kennedy, a 280,048-square-foot school in Silver Spring, received a 52,085-square-foot addition. Its newest features include a school-based wellness center, space for the Medical Careers Academy, and technology and special education suites. The school also received new artificial turf on the stadium field; Bermuda grass and an irrigation system installed on the practice field, and new tennis courts atop a new elevated parking structure.

Upscale children’s boutique RUE + ROE has opened at 217 Market St W in Gaithersburg, the former site of My Big Finds (now located at 129 Commerce Square Pl. in the in the Kentlands). During its soft opening, hours will be 11am-5pm Tuesday-Saturday and Closed Sunday/Monday.
A vehicle was driven into the Food Stop Mini Mart at 4820 Boiling Brook Pkwy in North Bethesda, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) chief spokesperson Pete Piringer.
The crash occurred at approximately 5pm on Wednesday afternoon and caused plenty of damage to the storefront. Additional information on why the crash occurred is unavailable at the moment and we have not been made aware of any injuries.
Candidates must be qualified registered voters for the Town of Poolesville, 21 years of age or older, and have resided within the corporate limits of the Town of Poolesville for at least 6 months prior to the election. Stop by Town Hall to pick up your official application, and have it signed by a minimum of 25 residents who are qualified registered voters of the Town of Poolesville. Applications along with a completed Financial Disclosure Form and $10.00 fee must be returned to Town Hall no later than September 27 at 4 pm.
The Town of Poolesville is a commission form of government, as defined in the Town Charter, consisting of five unpaid elected Commissioners. The Commissioners are all voted at-large. All Commissioners serve four-year staggered terms.
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will hold a job fair from 10am-1pm on Wednesday, September 7th at the Student Services Building of Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus (intersection of Rockville Pike and North Campus Drive).
MCPS is hiring for various positions, including: paraeducators, building service workers, food services, transportation, clerical, security, teachers, and counselors.
The Montgomery County Planning Department and the City of Takoma Park invite the community to participate in multiple events this fall as the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment enters the “Visioning Phase” of the process. In addition to community farmers markets events, the planning team will host a Visioning Open House on Tuesday, October 18, at Piney Branch Elementary School (7510 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912) from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will consist of an open-house style format on what the future of Takoma Park could look like at the Washington Adventist Hospital and University campuses, the Erie Center, as well as the area along Maple Avenue.
