Beyond MoCo

Pupatella in Columbia (Howard County) proudly holds the distinction of being the only establishment in the entire state certified by the prestigious Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN). Pupatella was established in 2007, originating from the vision of Enzo Algarme, who relocated from Italy to the United States to pursue medical studies. What began as a small food truck in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, quickly became a massive success and has since become a beloved destination for enthusiasts of authentic Neapolitan pizza.

Restaurants

Charley’s Cheesesteaks & Wings is preparing to open its doors in the Woodmoor Shopping Center, according to the Regency Centers leasing website. The new restaurant will be located at 10121 Colesville Road, between the beloved Woodmoor Pastry Shop and Bento Express, taking over for the closed UPS Store and adding to the diverse mix of dining options in the popular center that also includes the recently opened Nash & Smashed, Santucci’s Deli, and more.

Montgomery Parks

Montgomery Parks annual deer population management program will occur from September 2025 to March 2026. The program includes two new parks this yearOak Ridge Conservation Park in Damascus and Little Bennett Creek Stream Valley Park in Clarksburg.

Event

Bring your family and friends to our free , all-day outdoor Oktoberfest celebration. These will be an outdoor craft fair featuring local artisans and professional woodworkers, a chainsaw carving, woodworking and tool demonstrations by Festool, Montgomery Wood Turners and Carvers. There will also be lots of delicious food provided by El Parente Tacos, El Jeffe Wood-fired pizzas, Bruster's Ice cream and seasonal craft brews from Saints Row Brwsing Company.

MoCo Government

On Wednesday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Councilmember Evan Glass, and MCDOT staff joined the Kemp Mill Civic Association for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a new pedestrian bridge in the Kemp Mill area of Silver Spring. The ADA-accessible bridge was built to provide safer pedestrian access across a creek bed that had become increasingly difficult to cross, and a memorial on the bridge honors the late community member Nicki Toys.

DMV

Lumiere’s Chimney Cake, a renowned international dessert franchise known for its viral popularity, has been a hit since it opened its first U.S. location at The Wharf in Washington DC a couple months back. The company has ambitious plans to expand further into Virginia’s Mosaic District and Maryland’s Silver Spring, according to DC Spot (video below), although specific addresses for these new locations have yet to be announced.

MoCo Government

Montgomery County will host a remembrance ceremony and candlelight vigil on Thursday, August 28, in Downtown Rockville to honor lives lost to overdose and raise awareness as part of International Overdose Awareness Day. The event, which includes a resource fair and candle lighting, precedes National Recovery Month in September and highlights the importance of compassion, support, and access to recovery resources.
