Maryland Attorney General Brief Challenging Detention Conditions for Immigrants at Immigration Court
Attorney General Anthony G. Brown filed an amicus brief supporting a lawsuit that challenges the conditions of civil immigrant detainees at the Baltimore Immigration Court, alleging violations of basic rights and calling for a limit on detention time in temporary holding cells.
On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Frederick County Health Department (FCHD) confirmed that a raccoon recovered from near Memorial Park in Thurmont, Maryland, tested positive for the rabies virus. The raccoon had been collected by Frederick County Animal Control on Friday, June 13, 2025, following a reported fight with a dog. A rabid raccoon was also captured earlier this week after biting two people in Silver Spring.
Qamaria Yemeni Coffee is set to open its first Maryland location with an upcoming store in Laurel. Though an exact location has not been announced, we’ve been told that it will be near Laurel Regional Hospital (7300 Van Dusen Rd.) with an opening expected by the end of the year.
The City of Gaithersburg has shared that effective July 1, 2025, the City of Gaithersburg will implement a new Residential Permit Parking (RPP) program and changes to the Olde Towne Commercial Parking Pass program. The new changes will improve parking availability, accessibility, and overall traffic management.
The City of Takoma Park has shared that MD 410 (Philadelphia Avenue), from MD 320 (Piney Branch Road) to MD 195 (Carroll Avenue) will be resurfaced from Friday, June 20 – Monday, June 23, 2025 (weather permitting).
Brew Belly at 18065 Georgia Ave in Olney has announced it will be holding its annual “Cheesesteak Eating Contest” on Thursday, July 4. The winner of the contest will win free cheesesteaks from the restaurant for one year. (more…)
