We are now within 72 hours and it still looks like we have pretty solid snow storm heading our way. I would expect a Winter Storm Watch to be issued this evening after the advisory ends at 7pm. A Winter Storm Warning then becomes very possible as we get closer to the event, which is expected to take place late Sunday and Monday.

Last October, biopharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, headquartered in Gaithersburg since 2013, announced that it will build another state-of-the art facility, also in Gaithersburg. This new facility, which follows the opening of the company’s $300 million cell therapy manufacturing facility opened in Rockville last spring, will create 100 new jobs and continue to expand the company’s R&D footprint in the County. Crime

Steven Randolph, 34, of Rockville, was found guilty in three indecent exposure trials in Montgomery County District Court and sentenced to a total of four and a half years in prison for multiple offenses, including indecent exposure, theft, and disorderly conduct. (more…)

Per MCPS: MCPS Schools Close on Time; After-School and Evening Activities Canceled

Montgomery County Public Schools will close at the regularly scheduled time today, Friday, January 3. All after-school and evening school and community activities in school buildings are canceled. Daycare programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled. Families should check with their childcare provider.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) – Major Crimes Division are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying suspects involved in a commercial strong-arm robbery of CVS (1200 block of East West Highway in Silver Spring).

The Gaithersburg Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department (GWGVFD), located on the corner of Montgomery Village Avenue and Russell Avenue, has earned the designation of 2024’s busiest station in Montgomery County, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.
