MCPD News Release 1.21.21: Detectives from the Major Crimes Division have charged Tyrece A. Jones, age 19, of the 1100 block of Kennebec Street in Oxon Hill, with the January 14 assault and armed carjacking of a 42-year-old female that occurred at a gas station in Chevy Chase. The investigation by detectives determined that at approximately 8:23 p.m. on January 14, the victim was at a gas station located at 8500 Connecticut Avenue and had just finished pumping gas into her car when the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, approached her. The victim attempted to quickly enter her vehicle, but the suspect stopped her and began assaulting her. The victim then attempted to flee on foot, but the suspect pursued her and continued to assault her. During the assault, the suspect pointed the handgun at the victim and demanded her car keys. The suspect obtained the victim’s car keys and struck the victim in the upper body with the handgun before stealing the victim’s car and fleeing the area. The victim was treated at the scene for her injuries.

Detectives Investigate Armed Home Invasion Robbery

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police- Major Crimes Division are investigating a home invasion robbery in Silver Spring. On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at approximately, 8 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the 2300 block of Glenallen Avenue for the report of a home invasion robbery that just occurred.

The investigation by detectives has determined that at approximately 8 p.m., the victim heard a knock at her door. When she opened the door, an unknown male armed with a handgun, forced himself into her residence and demanded money. The victim complied with the suspect’s demands. The suspect then left the residence with an undisclosed amount of stolen money.

Beyond MoCo: Maryland State Police Arrest Two Suspects In Connection With The Death Of St. Mary’s County Man Reported Missing

Per the Maryland State Police: state Police arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a St. Mary’s County man reported missing last year in December. The accused are identified as Michelina Goodwin, 45 and Larry Murphy, 40, both of Great Mills, Maryland. Goodwin and Murphy are being held without bond at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

After consultation with the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, Goodwin was arrested this morning at approximately 3:00 a.m. without incident. She is charged with first- and second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/crime of violence and improper disposal of a human body.

Montgomery County Police responded to an armed carjacking last night in Silver Spring. Per MCPD, “At approximately 6:52 p.m., MCP officers responded to the Safeway located in the 900 block of Thayer Ave. for the report of an armed carjacking that just occurred.

Update: Detectives Investigate Bank Robbery in Gaithersburg; Surveillance Photos of Suspect Released

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the Bank of America in the 400 block of N. Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg. Detectives have released surveillance photos of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

At approximately 3:36 p.m., officers responded to the location for the report of a bank robbery that just occurred. The investigation by detectives has revealed that the suspect entered the bank, implied he had a firearm, stole an undisclosed amount of money and left the bank. Detectives reviewed the surveillance footage of the bank and obtained surveillance photographs of the suspect.

Police responded to a bank robbery on Tuesday afternoon in Gaithersburg. According to MCPD, “Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at approximately 3:36 p.m., MCP officers responded to the Bank of America at 474 N. Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburgfor the report of a bank robbery that just occurred.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the adult male suspect entered the bank, implied he had a firearm, stole an undisclosed amount of money, and left the bank. Injuries have not been reported. The suspect has not been apprehended.”

MCPD: Detectives Investigate Theft from Delivery Truck; Surveillance Footage Released

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – 2nd District Investigative Section are investigating a theft from a delivery vehicle that occurred on Thursday, October 13, 2022, in Bethesda. Detectives are releasing surveillance video of the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him. At approximately 12:08 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the 7500 block of Old Georgetown Road for the report of a theft from a delivery truck.

The initial investigation has determined that an unknown suspect entered the delivery truck, stole property and left the scene. A citizen witnessed the crime and followed the suspect into the Bethesda Metro Station. When the suspect noticed he was being followed he demanded that the citizen stop and pulled up his sweatshirt, revealing a handgun in his waistband. The suspect then entered a white Lexus and left the scene. The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 6-feet, 1-inch and weighs 200 pounds. He was wearing a baseball hat, white face mask, a hooded sweatshirt, dark colored pants and gloves.

Police Investigating Stolen Vehicle in Bethesda; Victim Left Engine Running While Inside Store

Police are investigating an automobile theft that occurred Monday afternoon in Bethesda. According to MCPD, “On Monday, January 16, 2023, at approximately 2:03 p.m., MCP officers responded to the CVS Pharmacy in the 6900 block of Arlington Rd. in Bethesda for the report of a stolen vehicle.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that an adult male parked his black 2016 Mercedes sedan in the parking lot of the CVS and left the engine running while he was purchasing items inside the pharmacy. Moments later, he came out of the pharmacy and observed that his Mercedes had been stolen.”

Rockville Man Found Guilty of First-Degree Murder

Per the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office: “Before the Honorable Karla Smith, a jury found defendant Sergey Danshin, 35, of Rockville, guilty of first-degree murder and related handgun charges for the death of 39-year-old Javier Gonzalez-Mena. On June 22^nd, 2022, Danshin and co-defendant, Micah Clemons, 33, of Virginia, knocked on the door of a room at the Red Roof Inn along the 16000 block of Shady Grove Road in Rockville, where victim, Gonzalez-Mena, had been staying. After an initial confrontation, Danshin left the area of the room, only to return several minutes later to ambush Gonzalez-Mena. Danshin then fatally shot the victim.

The victim, Gonzalez-Mena’s, girlfriend was holding his hand as he was shot and fell to the ground. Danshin ordered her to come to a waiting get-away car where he removed a facial covering that he was wearing and revealed his identity. The two were known to each other. As soon as Gonzalez-Mena’s girlfriend had the opportunity, she called 911. Danshin and Clemons were arrested along with the driver of the getaway car, Willman Quintanilla, 43, of Boyds. Danshin faces the potential of life in prison when he is sentenced on April 6^th, 2023. Assistant State’s Attorneys James Dietrich and Gabe Carrera are prosecuting this case. Co-defendant, Micah Clemons, has pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and a related handgun charge and is scheduled for sentencing on March 10^th, 2023. Co-defendant, Willman Quintanilla, has pleaded guilty to accessory after fact murder 1^st and is scheduled for sentencing on March 10^th, 2023.”

Man Found Guilty of First-Degree Murder in Home Invasion Case

Per the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office: Before the Honorable John Maloney, a jury found defendant, Tremayne Dorsey, 44, of unknown address, guilty of first-degree murder, felony murder, home invasion, two counts of first-degree assault, and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. This stems from an incident on November 30th, 2021, when Dorsey forced his way into an apartment along the 12300 block of Treetop Drive in Silver Spring, shooting and killing 39-year-old James Beverly whose eight-month-old daughter and other family members were just feet away, inside of the unit.

Dorsey also assaulted two women inside of the apartment. As detailed in court proceedings, Dorsey had previously stayed at the residence with the victims and had a falling out with them, so he was known to them. He was found by police nearly a month later in Colonial Heights, VA. Dorsey faces the potential of life in prison when he is sentenced on March 23rd, 2023. Assistant State’s Attorneys Peter Larson and Kimberly Cissel are prosecuting this case.

Beyond MoCo: Maryland State Police Arrest Man On Sextortion, Child Pornography Charges In Prince George’s County

Per the Maryland State Police: Troopers arrested a Prince George’s County man on Thursday after a Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigation developed evidence of sextortion and possession and distribution of child pornography.

The suspect is identified as Isaiah S. Poole, 21, of Suitland, Maryland. Poole is charged with seven counts of possession of child pornography, two counts of soliciting minors to engage in sexual conduct, two counts of causing minors to engage as a subject in a performance that exposes their intimate parts by threatening to inflict emotional distress and one count of distribution of pornography. Poole was transported to the Prince George’s County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
