Silver Spring

A pickup truck with an attached food service trailer caught fire at the Shell gas station at 12401 Georgia Ave on Wednesday morning around 9:30am.

Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Pete Piringer reports that the the truck caught fire at the gas pump and was well-involved (engulfed) before being extinguished.


Silver Spring

Authorities say a United States Park Police officer  was involved in a shooting that occurred on the 200 block of Missouri Avenue in NW D.C. that led to a chase into Silver Spring early this morning.

According to Park Police, the suspect was chased approximately 10 minutes into Silver Spring where the driver crashed into several cars on Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road before being apprehended and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.


Rockville

A fifth grade student at Farmland Elementary School has died, according to a letter sent home to the Rockville elementary school community.


Silver Spring

4 year old Iliana Hernandez of Silver Spring was killed in a crash that occurred a little after 10pm at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Dexter Avenue near the Forest Glen area in Silver Spring, police said in a press release on Monday.

A GoFundMe has been created to help Iliana’s family with funeral arrangements.


Potomac

On Monday in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, John Joseph Odonnell, 35 of Bensalem, PA, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, all but 12 suspended, for setting fire to a home along Korman Drive in Potomac on October 26, 2020.

According to a release from the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Odonnell pleaded guilty to first-degree arson and home invasion following a fire he set at the home of a woman who was a stranger to him.  Odonnell admitted to authorities that he was under a drug induced psychosis at the time he started the fire.


Gaithersburg

A vehicle caught fire today in the Gaithersburg High School bus loop around noon today, according to several witnesses.

School officials immediately called emergency services, who quickly arrived on the scene and put the fire out. There were no occupants in the vehicle at the time of the fire and nobody was hurt.
