North Bethesda

Back in April we let you know that Shouk would be opening two MoCo locations. Tomorrow will be the first of the two openings, as the Rockville location will have its Grand Opening at 5568 Randolph Road in the Montrose Shopping Center (in the former Spring Mill Bread Co. location next to MOM’s Organic Market) at 11am.

Located just off Rockville Pike in a 2,000-square-foot, 20-seat space, Shouk Rockville will serve the same menu of plant-based, certified kosher street food available at its other locations, including the award-winning Shouk Burger, featured on the Food Network and The Washington Post. Inspired by the world’s liveliest street markets, Shouk’s food is crafted from fresh vegetables, beans, grains, and lots of spices; no labs, nothing processed or engineered. Shouk Rockville will offer carryout, delivery, and onsite indoor and outdoor dining.

North Bethesda

A previous version of this article stated a date that we have been told is not correct. The restaurant plans to open soon, and an exact date will be provided when it is available.

The founders of Cava, Cava Mezze, and Julii are bringing their newest concept to Pike & Rose and the restaurant will be open for business soon.

Briggs Chaney

This morning we were told by a reliable source that Chipotle would be moving in to the recently closed Little Caesars location in the Briggs Chaney MarketPlace shopping center.

Little Caesars closed the Briggs Location early this past summer and many local residents have wondered what would be taking its place. We are told the location would be a walk-up/drive-thru only Chipotle, which isn’t common in the area.

Rockville

Back in September we let you know that Kumbia, a South American restaurant focusing on cuisine from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador, is coming to 100 B Gibbs Street in Rockville Town Square, the former location of Spice Xing.

Signage is now up in the window, as the restaurant is expected to open this winter.

Cabin John

The Pretzel Bakery, which opened it’s DC location at 257 15th Street SE in DC back in 2012, is coming to Cabin John Village in Potomac.  The restaurant will be taking over the space formerly occupied by the Hair Cuttery at 7961 Tuckerman Ln.

According to their website, the Pretzel Bakery serves small batch, hand-rolled, Philadelphia-style soft pretzels fresh-out-of-the-oven all day.  In addition to traditional pretzels, they also sell pretzel dogs, pretzel calzones, stuffed pretzel “bombs”, and pretzel sliders.

Rockville

This past summer we let you know that El Mercat Bar De Tapas will be taking over the spot that was most recently home to Gumbo Ya Ya, at 101 Gibbs Street Unit C in Rockville Town Square.

Signage is now up in the windows as the restaurant moves closer towards opening, though an opening date has not yet been provided.

Dickerson

The lower level and outdoor area will now be known as The Beer Hall at Comus Inn and will feature their current menu. The main floor and upper level will now be known as Chef Sammy D’s Dining Room at the Comus Inn and will feature a new menu with options such as garganelli pasta with duck ragu and organic Scottish Salmon.

The Comus Inn reopened under new ownership back in October, 2020.

Bethesda

Ruth’s Chris Steak House at 7315 Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda is scheduled to permanently close on December 24, according to Dan Schere at Bethesda Beat.

The decision to close was made after the restaurant determined the sales volume did not justify the expense of a needed remodel, according to the report.

Germantown

Crumbl Cookies opened its first MoCo location just over a year ago at Federal Plaza in Rockville. Now, the bakery known for its long box of cookies is opening a second location– near Wegmans at The Shops at Seneca Meadows shopping center in Germantown.

The shop will be located at 20650 Seneca Meadows Pkwy, in what used to be home to Sprint, next to Sally Beauty.

Olney

Kung Fu Tea has signed on to take over the location that’s as recently home to Yogi Berry, next to Starbucks in the same shopping center as Cava Mezze, CVS, and Cafe Rio at 3128 Olney Sandy Spring Road.

The bubble tea cafe was one of the first to distinguish itself by having a system where drinkers customize their orders by sweetness, amount of ice, toppings, and more, using Asian teas as a base rather than commercial powders.

Olney

CB Açaí at 18062 Georgia Avenue has announced they have closed their Olney storefront. They will continue to operate their catering business and food truck.

According to the owner, “CB Açaí still plans on being a major presence in the community along with the great people and partnerships we have formed. Our truck is booked for the month of November, please check out the website to where will be and what’s on the menu! Once again thank you so much for all of the support!”
