Rockville

Color Me Mine at 33 Maryland Ave in Rockville Town Square will shut its door permanently on Sunday, March 13th after over a decade in the location, we confirmed with the store today. The location was formerly home to New Wave Discount Hair Supply and The Papery.

The paint your own pottery (PYOP) chain of studios, Color Me Mine, was created in 1991 and now has over 150 stores nationwide. The family friendly art studio helps you select a ceramics piece for you to paint. You select your paint colors (no limit to how many or how much) and get to work.  You can make it your own or check out our projects and technique pages to get some ideas. Workshops and classes are also offered.


Rockville

Per the City of Rockville:

The City of Rockville’s Historic District Commission will hold a virtual public hearing to review the county’s plans to partially demolish the detention center at 1307 Seven Locks Road, in part as a first step toward potentially relocating a Montgomery County Public Schools bus depot from 16651 Crabbs Branch Way, in Derwood, among other uses.


Research Row

Back in May of 2021 we let you know that Chadol Korean BBQ would be coming to Research Row in Rockville.

The new Korean BBQ restaurant, which is located at 1403 Research Blvd, Suite A-8, opened last month. As of now its website is pretty bare, but Google offers a menu that consists of a variety of appetizers, a la carte meat dishes, combos, and more. It can be seen below.


Bethesda

Bangkok Garden announced the loss of longtime owner/employee Ricky Laohapant on Wednesday. Ricky was the owner and operator of longtime Bethesda restaurant Bangkok Garden, which closed permanently last August.

Bangkok Garden opened its Rockville location in 2019. The full statement on Ricky’s passing can be seen below. Our condolences go out to his friends and family.


Restaurants

The last remaining Quizno’s in MoCo has closed. The restaurant, which was located at 1611 E Gude Dr, was cleared out earlier this week and is now listed as “closed permanently” by Google. The phone number for the location is not in working order.

Back in April of 2021, the Bethesda location closed. It was the second to last remaining Quizno’s in the county.


North Bethesda

Call Your Mother is ringing the dinner bell for the first time ever at its Pike & Rose location. “That’s right: Call Your Mother is doing dinner! You can now fulfill your dreams of having Call Your Mother for every meal of the day.”

Call Your Mother, the award-winning Jew-ish deli, opened at Pike & Rose back on September 20th. Located at 11807 Grand Park Ave. in North Bethesda, MD, the bagel shop and deli features homemade, signature bagels, creative sandwiches, coffee, and nostalgic pastries. Now, they’re adding dinner to their repertoire.


MCPS

Charles W. Woodward High School opened in 1966. Two decades later, in 1987, its students were merged into Walter Johnson High School. Woodward and Walter Johnson High Schools had the same diminished enrollment levels, but MCPS decided to preserve Walter Johnson given the schools larger capacity

After a brief period as a holding school while Springbrook High was being renovated, the building was used to house Tilden Middle School while that school’s facility began a major renovation project. Tilden relocated to its new building during the summer of 2020.


Rockville

Representatives from Montgomery County will provide a presentation on their proposed plans for County properties located on Seven Locks Road, including the County’s proposal for a bus depot, at  Monday, February 28th’s Rockville City Council meeting.

Located at 1307 Seven Locks Road, the subject property is triangular bounded by Seven Locks Road to the west, I-270 to the east, and Wootton Parkway to the south.
