MoCo

Pete Sampras has won 14 Grand Slam singles titles during his career, which was an Open Era record at the time of his retirement. He spent 263 total weeks ranked as the best tennis player in the world (3rd most all-time).

He spent the first seven years of his life in Potomac before his family moved west to California.


Beyond MoCo

D.C., along with 17 other cities, has submitted the paperwork to bid to be a host city of the 2026 World Cup.

The World Cup will be shared by Mexico, Canada, and the U.S, as was announced in 2018.  Mexico and Canada are expected to provide about 3 cities each to host various games, while the U.S. is expecting to have 10 different host cities for the 80-match long tournament.  D.C.’s bid names FedEx Field.


Germantown

Ridge Road is an existing rink refurbished by the Capitals. The old boards were removed, and the existing metal frame was used. The bench area and doors were adjusted to be ADA compliant by Riley Manufacturing, who then installed their board system. A new Daktronics scoreboard and Mateflex flooring system was installed featuring the Capitals logo.


Bethesda

Georgetown Prep graduate, Arthur Smith, is a big part of the Titans deep playoff run this season.

The first-year offensive coordinator has helped guide veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who started the season as Marcus Mariota’s backup, to his best season in the NFL. He has also installed an offense that features the NFL’s leading rusher, Derrick Henry, in a prominent role to help take the Titans to the AFC championship game.
