Mrs. K’s Toll House Available for Lease for the First Time in 90 Years

Mrs. K’s Toll House opened in 1930 and has continued to serve generations in Silver Spring for 90 years. Now, for the first time since it opened, is it available for lease according to a large sign placed on the property.

Source of the Spring reports that “the owners want to take the time to find the right operator to take it to the next level.”

The restaurant has remained closed since COVID restrictions were first put into effect back in March. over the summer were told by various sources that the restaurant planned to reopened, but nothing was concrete at the time.

“Mrs. K’s Toll House Restaurant is situated in what was the last operating tollhouse in Montgomery County. Since that time, Mrs. K’s has become one of the most well-known restaurants in Silver Spring. It’s the place for gathering after work, sharing the holidays, enjoying a wonderful meal with a fabulous wine selection and creating the best of memories with your most special events.” –MrsKs.com

Harvey and Blanche Kreuzburg purchased the tollhouse in 1929 and opened for business the following year. Throughout the house, you’ll see various antiques…some much older than the restaurant itself.

Since then, the restaurant was operated by members of the Kreuzberg family until ownership changed hands in 1996.

Mrs. K’s is a Silver Spring classic.
(Rumor has it, the inside dining rooms were used as a “speakeasy” during prohibition.)
