Two New businesses are opening in Takoma Park, according to Main Street Takoma. School of Musical Traditions, which is a partner of Takoma Park’s House of Musical Traditions, and Justice Arts Coalition will share 7112 Willow Avenue. School of Musical traditions moves in from its previous Rockville location. Additional information on each business available below:


Boyds

We are about a month into fall and the colors around us are changing. Whether it’s the taste of a warm pumpkin-flavored latte, the cool breeze of a crisp fall morning, weekends full of football, or the yellow glow of the sun on a tall birch tree, autumn is often a contender for MoCo residents’ favorite season (however short it may be). Many locals are looking forward to combining all the best parts of fall and enjoying the foliage outdoors, so we’ve put together a small list of 10 where you can enjoy the foliage across the county:

Agricultural Reserve: A drive through the rural areas that the 93,000 acre Agricultural Reserve encompasses, along with the larger rural communities of Damascus and Poolesville and small crossroad communities such as Beallsville, Sunshine and Dickerson, are sure to give you your fill of fall foliage.


Maryland

County Executive Marc Elrich and Maryland’s First Lady Yumi Hogan attended a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, October 18, to mark the beginning of construction at the UNDBIO’s new U.S. R&D headquarters at 12441 Parklawn Drive in Rockville. Addition details below per the State of Maryland:

ANNAPOLIS, MD—First Lady Yumi Hogan attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday to begin the laboratory construction and build-out of South Korean pharmaceutical company UNDBIO’s new U.S. R&D headquarters in Rockville. UNDBIO’s international arrival to Maryland was announced last month during Governor Larry Hogan’s trade and investment mission to Asia.

Beyond MoCo

Gordon Ramsay’s Fish & Chips has soft opened at 665 Water Street at the base of the Williams & Connolly building The Wharf in DC.  Originally, Ramsay planned on opening his Fish & Chips restaurant at 501 Seventh Street, Northwest, DC, but decided he would open a bottomless pizza restaurant there instead (coming soon). Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips was the second of his restaurants announced for The Wharf as the Michelin-starred Chef is also bringing his Hell’s Kitchen concept to The Wharf.

The fast casual Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips menu offers six different types of combos, including a fish, shrimp, and chicken combo, as well as fishwich, chickenwich, and fish & shrimp combo, ranging in price from $14.99-$18.99. You have the option to “hook it up” by adding either extra fish, shrimp or chicken ($3.99-$5.99). Each combo comes with your choice of two sauces, and you can choose between Gordon’s tartar, curry & mango, sriracha aioli, southwest ranch, dijon mayo, and cocktail sauce. Chips are also available on their own, either plain or in three different versions of “dirty chips.” For dessert you can choose either a sticky toffee shake or a biscoff shake. Alcoholic beverages (beer and wine) are also available for those 21+.


Chevy Chase

The 3rd annual Ch/Art Art Walk 2022, will be held on Saturday October 22 and Sunday October 23 from 12-5pm (there is no rain date). The event is free and open to the public. “Come and discover the 67 artists showing their work in 22 home studios in and around Chevy MD and DC. Stroll, bike or drive around to see the art, sip some wine and met your friends at the most talked about event in the area!”

This talented group will offer work in a wide range of media including abstract and representational painting, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, ceramic art, photography, fabric art, mixed media and video. Many of the bars and restaurants are also offering themed parties, drinks and treats over the weekend of Oct. 28-30 will include the Nightmare on Georgia Avenue at I/O Spaces and the Caribbean Halloween Party at Fire Station 1.


Gaithersburg

MoCo’s only 24-hour Starbucks location at 505 Quince Orchard Rd. in the FirstField Shopping Center (Gaithersburg) has reopened. The store closed back on September 9th for renovations. The store now features an expanded workspace for the baristas and no longer has an area inside for customers to sit and drink coffee (photos below).  The Starbucks located at 300 Spectrum Ave in Gaithersburg temporarily moved to 24-hours while the FirstField location was closed, and has now resumed normal business hours (5:30am-10:30pm).

Also in FirstField Shopping Center news, Roaming Rooster is coming to 511 Quince Orchard Rd. The restaurant will be located in space previously occupied by Duck Donuts, which permanently closed in August. Roaming Rooster is known for its variety of buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches that vary in heat depending on the diner’s preferences – mild, medium or hot. In addition to its free-range, grain-fed, antibiotic-free and Halal chicken, Roaming Rooster offers an all week breakfast menu, salads and sides including wings, chicken tenders and hand-cut fries.
