CVS has announced that it will be closing its Rockville Town Square location at 360 Hungerford Drive (on the corner of Hungerford and Beall). The store will be closing on Wednesday, April 27th, according to signage posted at the store. Customers are being redirected to the nearby Rockville location at 799 Rockville Pike.
Late last year CVS announced that it would be closing approximately 900 stores over the next 3 years due to “changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs.” A CVS location on Veirs Mill Rd. closed last November. New CVS locations in MoCo are planned for Clarksburg (across the outlets) and Gaithersburg (Kentlands).

MoCo’s newest Chopt location opened in the Kentlands neighborhood in Gaithersburg earlier this year, and a new location is now set to be announced in Potomac.
According to a report by The Daily Record, “Chopt plans to open new restaurants in Towson and Potomac in the fourth quarter of 2022 as part of its growth in the Southeast region.”
It has been nearly three years since we reported that CVS would be taking over the old Tommy Joe’s/Boulevard Tavern/Brasserie Beck/O’Donnell’s location in the Kentlands.Construction is progressing, as the frame of the building is about halfway up. There’s no timetable for when it will be ready, but it could be ready to go by the end of the summer.
Gaithersburg Councilmember Neil Harris told us that CVS would be moving forward with the plan back in 2019. Demolition of the old building occurred in November with construction starting soon after.
Visit Montgomery is launching the 2nd annual MoCo Eats Week from April 22 – 30.
This county-wide restaurant week is focused on supporting food and beverage businesses of all sizes and is a great opportunity for residents to take the week to explore the diverse culinary scene in Montgomery County.
