Rockville

April is World Autism Awareness Month and Saturday; April 2, 2022, is World Autism Awareness Day. Each year, the Rockville city council and mayor recognize World Autism Awareness Day and World Autism Awareness Month with a proclamation.

Per the City of Rockville:

Bethesda

Back in August of 2020 we let you know that HalfSmoke would be opening a Rockville location in Rockville Town Square. We have been unable to get any updates on that location, but the upcoming Montgomery Mall location has a hearing with Montgomery County’s ABS for a beer, wine, and liquor license on Thursday, April 14 at 1pm.

The upcoming Montgomery Mall location will be located in in a kiosk in the food terrace, in the location that was the former home of Coldstone Creamery and more recently Gelato Galaxy.

Education

Per Montgomery County Public Schools:

The Maryland State Board of Education recently changed its graduation requirement for health education. Students must now earn one full credit for graduation; previously, they earned one half-credit. This requirement begins with the Class of 2025. The health education curriculum team in the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Schools is developing a new Health Education B class that all students will take following Health Education A.

MCFRS

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue units responded to a call for a fire on Wednesday evening at approximately 6pm on Walkers Choice Road in Montgomery Village.

Upon arriving, firefighters helped evacuate the three story apartment building and began fighting the fire on the first floor/terrace level of the apartment.

Olney

The owner/operator of Olney’s Chick-Fil-A restaurant has announced that he will be relocating to Georgia to open a new Chick-Fil-A in Savannah. In his letter to the community he wrote that a new owner would be in place by July and that the Chick-Fil-A corporate offices would be running the restaurant from April until then, asking for grace during the transition period. The full message can be seen below:

Radio station Hot 99.5 (WIHT FM) is running a tournament to determine “Who is the best high school in the DMV?”

Wheaton High School is currently facing off against Osbourn Park High School (Manassas, VA) in the final round.

Bethesda

Robert Wiedmaier’s Mussel Bar & Grille in Bethesda (7262 Woodmont Ave) will be closing permanently on April 9th, according to an employee of the restaurant. It was the first of multiple locations that opened in Bethesda in July of 2010. A second location opened in Atlantic City, N.J, and a third opened in Ballston. The Atlantic City location has since closed and the Ballston location remains open.

Per its website, “inspiration for Mussel Bar is an old-world Belgian roadhouse serving Bière, Moules & Frites, the kind of place where Chef in his youth would head late night to unwind with kitchen colleagues, eat simple food and listen to good music. He’s one of the first to ‘muscle’ the craze and honor his Belgian roots in the DC area with bringing the savory mollusks to the forefront of his own gastro-pubs with the original location in Bethesda, MD that opened in July, 2010.”

Bethesda

Foxtrot, the modern corner store, café and delivery market, has announced its continued DMV expansion with the opening of its first Maryland location at Bethesda Row (7262 Woodmont Avenue). It will be moving in to the space currently occupied by Mussel Bar & Grille, which will be closing in April.

Foxtrot will serve as a neighborhood destination where Bethesda residents can gather to grab a coffee, enjoy a meal, or pick up pantry staples and a bottle of wine.
