Potomac

Capo Italian Deli will be opening a new location in Cabin John Village, according to a recent report by Store Reporter. According to the report, the exact location and opening date have not yet been determined, but Capo could be the replacement for Goldberg’s New York Bagels, which will close next month.

The Italian delicatessen was previously available for carryout and delivery in Montgomery County out of sister restaurant Brickside Food & Drink (4866 Cordell Ave) in Bethesda. The deli’s first location opened at 715 Florida Ave in NW, DC.  Using a a prohibition style speakeasy gimmick, the deli their old school Italian deli as a “front” to it’s back bar. Capo gained attention in the area in the summer of 2020 for their popular “Fauci Pouchy” carryout cocktails. The deli has since opened a Western Market location and has a Tyson’s Corner location coming soon. The menu includes Italian classics like Chicken Parmigiano, Hot Italian Beef, Prosciutto & Provolone, and more.


Gaithersburg

Jared Bush is a native of Gaithersburg who graduated from Quince Orchard High School in 1992.

Last night, Bush won an Oscar when Encanto was announced as the winner for ‘Best Animated Film.’ Bush directed Encanto, and has also written and co-directed other animated Disney films like Zootopia and Moana.


Restaurants

Cielo Rojo, a family owned “fine-casual” Mexican restaurant, opened in the heart of Takoma Park at the start of 2019. Owners David Perez and Carolina McCandless first met in 2012 at Gracias Madre, a vegan Mexican restaurant in San Francisco, and now they’re bringing their version of San Fransisco Mission-style burritos to Takoma Park.

San Pancho plans to open this fall in the space that is currently home to Cielo Rojo (7056 Carroll Ave), while Cielo Rojo moves down the street to a larger space. A San Fransisco Mission-style burrito is a type of burrito that first became popular during the 1960s in the Mission District of San Francisco, California. It is distinguished from other burritos by its large size and inclusion of rice and other ingredients, and became popular when major chains like Chipotle, Qdoba, and more, began offering their versions across the county.


Wheaton

Montgomery County Police will host “Coffee, Cakes, and Cops” on Wednesday, March 30 from 5-7pm at the MCPD District 4 station (2300 Randolph Rd) in Wheaton.

Starbuck’s and Nothing Bundt Cakes will be providing refreshments.


Burtonsville

Restaurant 198 at 15540 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, the former location of Seibel’s, will hold a breakfast soft opening on Sunday, March 27 from 8am-2pm. The restaurant held a friends and family event earlier today.

Restaurant 198 is the latest restaurant from the owners of Luchador Bar & Eats (formerly Chapala), also in Burtonsville, and the upcoming Centrado Cafe House.


Education

For the 2022-2023 school year, Kindergarten registration for MCPS will be online through the ParentVUE portal starting March 28.

All elementary schools with kindergarten classes offer a full-day kindergarten program (there are six elementary schools that do not serve grades K-2.)


Germantown

Signage is up and construction is ongoing at Naz’s Halal (13025 Wisteria Drive) in Germantown, the former location of the Water Factory. In December we told you Naz’s would expanding to Germantown, Rockville (1040 Rockville Pike), Takoma Park (7653 New Hampshire Ave) and White Oak (11209 New Hampshire Ave).

The first location outside of New York was also in MoCo, at the Burtonsville Town Center, next to Tropical Smoothie Cafe. That location opened in August 2020 and has become a local favorite with late night hours, remaining open until 2am Sunday through Thursday and 4am on Friday and Saturday.
