This morning, Dr. Monifa McKnight was named as the next superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools.
McKnight has served as acting/interim superintendent the past eight months after being appointed the position on June 1, 2021. McKnight will move from her interim position into the permanent role as superintendent this summer, according to MCPS.
Montgomery County Police released video footage of MCPD Officer K. Berry, along with an off-duty MCPD officer, providing life saving aide to a man who was shot multiple times in Germantown on Sunday night.
The responding officers applied tourniquets to the victim prior to EMS arrival. The man was then hospitalized and is currently in stable condition

5:25 PM Update: We received a message from Anytime Fitness letting us know that it was an Anytime Fitness staff member who revived his client at the gym.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a call of a man who went into cardiac arrest at Anytime Fitness on the 4200 block of Howard Avenue, near Knowles Ave, in Kensington around 4pm this afternoon.
Update: Dizon King has been located safe and unharmed.

Governor Hogan tweeted today that he will be awarding a governor’s citation to Cpl. Annette Goodyear of the North East Police Department, the crossing guard that was struck by an oncoming vehicle last week. Goodyear risked her own safety by pushing a student out of harms way just a split second before being struck herself.
Hogan tweeted, “I will be awarding a governor’s citation to Annette Goodyear for her incredible heroism in putting herself at risk to save a young student from being hit by an oncoming car.”

Montgomery County has announced that all 26 of its ABS (Alcohol Beverage Services) retails stores have returned to normal hours. Montgomery County reduced the hours back on January 12 due to staffing issues.
