Full Details on Lidl’s Grand Opening in Montgomery Village

As we reported back in October, Lidl at 19225 Montgomery Village Ave in Montgomery Village will be holding it’s grand opening on February 9th. Lidl has announced that a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 7:40am that morning and the store will open to the public at 8am.

ARLINGTON, VA – Lidl US, ranked a top 3 U.S. grocer by USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, announced today that it will host a grand opening event on Wednesday, February 9, to celebrate its newest store in Montgomery Village, Maryland. The store, located at 19225 Montgomery Village Ave, will hold a ribbon cutting celebration with local leaders at 7:40 a.m. The store, which will operate from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Sunday, will offer shoppers incredible daily savings on Lidl’s highly-awarded range of products.

Wheaton House Fire Requires 65 Firefighters Early Monday Morning

A fire on the 2600 block of Harris Avenue in Wheaton required approximately 65 firefighters early this morning, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.

The initial dispatch was at 2:30am for a heavy fire at a 2-story home in Wheaton. Four occupants were able to get out without injuries, but the family dog, which was located on the second floor, did not survive.

Patient First Has Opened in Aspen Hill

Patient First opened its Aspen Hill location last month in the Aspen Manor shopping center on Georgia Avenue, next to Outback Steakhouse. The location was even the subject of local television commercials advertising the opening. Though the commercials still air and say the urgent and primary care facility will be “opening soon,” it has already opened.

Patient Care expanded its services in Maryland with the opening of a new medical center Aspen Hill, MD, on Thursday, December 2, 2021. The new center, located at 13671 Georgia Ave, Aspen Hill, MD 20906-5214, provides area residents with walk-in, non-appointment access to urgent and primary medical care services 365 days a year, including all holidays.

Golden Bakery, a Persian/Middle Eastern Bakery, To Open in Derwood on February 6th

Golden Bakery, a Persian and middle eastern bread factory and bakery, will hold its grand opening at 15841 Redland Road in Derwood on February 6th from 2pm-5pm.

The bakery specializes in Persian breads, and touts its experience in making “the finest Taftoon and Sangak bread.” In addition to the bread factory and bakery, Golden Bakery plans to also have a middle eastern grocery section.

Bethesda’s Enviva, World’s Largest Producer of Industrial Wood Pellets Used as Energy Source, Announces MOU with First U.S. Customer

Enviva is the world’s largest producer of industrial wood pellets, which are used an energy source used to generate electricity and heat. The company was founded in 2004 and was first located in Richmond, Virginia before moving to Bethesda in 2011. 

On Wednesday the company announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with its first U.S.-based customer, detailing plans to significantly accelerate its capital expansion timeline due to recent commercial momentum with power and heat generators and with industrials in hard-to-abate sectors. The business update also included preliminary 2021 financial results.

Montgomery County Council and Committees to Hold Meetings on Jan. 24, Committees Will Review the Establishment of a Police Accountability Board

The Public Safety (PS) Committee will meet virtually on Monday, Jan. 24 at 9:30 a.m. to discuss Expedited Bill 49-21, Police – Police Accountability Board – Administrative Charging Committee – Established, which would establish a Police Accountability Board (PAB) and Administrative Charging Committee (ACC) for the County. Bill 49-21 was introduced by the Council President at the request of the County Executive.

The members of the PS Committee include Chair Sidney Katz, Council President Gabe Albornoz and Councilmember Tom Hucker.

This past summer we let you know that El Mercat Bar De Tapas would be taking over the spot that was most recently home to Gumbo Ya Ya, at 101 Gibbs Street Unit C in Rockville Town Square.

The restaurant held a ticketed preview dinner event this weekend, and will be opening for dinner service to the public tomorrow (Monday, January 23) starting at 5pm, with lunch and brunch arriving in the coming weeks.
