Board of Education President to Testify at House Hearing on Antisemitism

Montgomery County Public Schools issued the following community message on Tuesday, May 7:

“MCPS Families,

Tomorrow, May 8, Karla Silvestre, president of the Board of Education, will testify at a hearing of the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education regarding antisemitism. She will convey the values of the Board, MCPS and our diverse community, emphasizing that we do not tolerate antisemitism, racism, or hate in any form.

Ms. Silvestre will express our commitment to keep learning and growing together. There are times when we do not get it right. But we, as a community, are committed to doing the hard work of building an inclusive, welcoming school system, free of all hate. In this, as in all things, we are lifelong learners.

As MCPS leaders, we are steadfastly dedicated to combating all forms of discrimination, hate, and bias within our school community. We are focused on our core mission: providing all students with the opportunity to learn in safe, welcoming schools.

We urge you to continue talking with your students about how to discuss these complex issues thoughtfully and in a way that recognizes and respects the humanity of all.”

Ms. Karla Silvestre
President,
Montgomery County Board of Education
Monique T. Felder Ph.D.
Interim Superintendent of Schools
