Just days after driving around Silver Spring and personally picking up fans to preview his new album, J. Cole has announced that he is bringing The Fall-Off world tour back to Maryland.
Cole revealed today that he will perform in Baltimore on July 23rd as part of the global tour supporting what he has said will be his final studio album. The announcement comes on the heels of a viral moment last week, when the rapper surprised local fans by offering them a once-in-a-lifetime listening experience inside his Honda Civic.
In a post shared Wednesday night, Cole told followers he was in Silver Spring and invited people nearby to ride with him while listening to The Fall-Off on newly installed speakers. He explained that he would pick up small groups of fans, play different discs of the album for each group, and cruise around while listening together. By 9:15pm, Cole had already picked up four fans.
The spontaneous meet-up quickly spread online, earning praise for its low-key authenticity and reinforcing Cole’s reputation for staying connected to fans even at the height of his success.
The Fall-Off has been described by Cole as his final album, though he has said he does not plan to stop making music entirely. Instead, he has shared plans to focus more on developing and supporting other artists in the next chapter of his career.
Born in Germany and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Cole rose to prominence after becoming the first artist signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in 2009. Over the past decade, he has become one of hip hop’s most respected figures, known for platinum albums released without guest features, introspective lyricism, and building the Dreamville label into a major force in the industry.
With a Baltimore stop now confirmed, Maryland fans who missed their chance to ride along in Silver Spring will soon have another opportunity to experience The Fall-Off live.
